This is another toy that falls into the simple, but well-loved category. I recently wrote a review for Infantino’s Soft Squeeze blocks HERE. I noted how often times, Cocoa Puff’s favorite toys are the simplist. This is another go-to Baby gift for showers, birthdays, and holidays!

Infantino has a set of textured balls!

There are six brightly colored balls in the set, all with different textures to appeal to baby’s senses. Cocoa Puff uses these balls to chew on and roll around. He also loves to feel the different textures on each ball.

I’m impressed with how simple these are and yet how perfectly they stimulate tactile development. Each ball is a different color, size, and texture. They are perfect for grabbing and rolling and throwing as they’re soft and flexible. I don’t worry about Cocoa Puff hurting himself with them and I don’t worry about Froot Loop accidentally hurting him either. In fact, Cocoa Puff just laughs when Froot Loop throws a ball at him. Oh, boys.

The balls are made of a flexible PVC plastic that is BPA free. They are dishwasher safe and great for the bathtub and pool, but be careful if you submerge them in water as they all have a small hole in them that water could collect in and harbor mold. They have held up very well against baby and preschooler abuse. Lucky Charms even chewed on one and it didn’t damage it (although it got a thorough cleaning for sure… yuck!).

There are all sorts of way to encourage learning with these balls. You could teach colors and comparative sizes. You could also teach textures. They are also great for encouraging crawling as baby will inevitably drop it or roll it away and want to chase after it.

The six different balls are a red spikey ball, an orange ball with craters in it, a yellow ball that Cocoa Puff mistook for a pacifier (or mama’s “mummies”... ha!) for a good month, a green ball with rounded ridges/stripes on it, a small blue ball with sharper ridges on it, and a purple knobbly ball.

I usually buy a set of these to go with the Infantino soft squeezy blocks as a 1st birthday present, but they would make a good baby shower gift too as even the youngest babies would benefit from the bright colors, and as soon as they’re able to grasp things, they’ll be grabbing and feeling these.

Which of these balls has your favorite color?

Yes! Safe for babies. That's super important. I was comfortable enough to leave these with my son when he was little.

They are totally perfect for sensory play. And actually, an occupational therapist I know uses them with her students to work on textures.
