MY KIDS FLOODED THE BATHROOM! Here's How we Dealt With It...

So, we had an incident here recently. Froot Loop was supposed to be in his room enjoying his quiet time. I was relaxing with the napping Cocoa Puff on the couch and Honey Graham was getting some much needed yardwork done.

Cocoa Puff woke up and needed to be changed. I walked over to the bathroom with him and I heard water running. I was a little upset because we’ve asked Froot Loop not to play with the water in the sink, and also, he was supposed to be in his room looking at books or playing with quiet toys in his room. 

I could have dealt with him just running the water in the sink. But no, that’s not what was going on. Oh no. I walked into the bathroom to find Froot Loop playing in the sink, but he had plugged the sink full of about a third of a roll of toilet paper and had the water on full blast. The water had already overflowed the sink and there was standing water on the floor. The rugs were soaked. Froot Loop was soaked. Everything under the sink, including all of our toilet paper, was soaked… and I found glow in the dark stars from his wall (the ones I had told him NOT to tear off his wall or else I would take them ALL off the walls) in the TOILET. With POOP. UGH! 

I can’t remember what exactly I did, but I know I asked what he was doing. Froot Loop kind of froze. I turned off the water, ran outside to yell at Honey Graham to get inside NOW, put Cocoa Puff into the pack and play, and ran back to the bathroom where Froot Loop just KNEW he was in trouble. I put him in the shower and turned the water on. Why, I’m not sure… it just sounded like the best of my options since I didn’t want to scream at him and I didn’t want to spank him. He was not very happy with this, but at that point I was so mad I was shaking. Froot Loop kept saying over and over that he was sorry. He knows right from wrong for the most part, so he knew he had done something bad and he knew he was in trouble. 

Cocoa Puff was screaming his head off about being alone in the pack and play, so Honey Graham had to deal with Froot Loop. We left his dripping wet clothes on him and made him clean up the bathroom. First, we made him use towels to clean up all the water. Then, we made him put all the towels and rugs into the washer. Then, Honey Graham helped him scrub the floor with Mrs. Meyers and put those towels into the washer too. He gave him a shower and put him back in his room.

While this was going on, I went in his room and took off all his glow in the dark stars. I also noticed he had ripped off some of the hot air balloons I had colored and hung on the walls for him, so I took all of those off too. While I was taking things off his wall, I decided to remove all of his baby decor since I was not in a sentimental mood at the moment and I have been wanting to redecorate in there. I also took all of his toys out of his room, with the agreement that he could earn them back day by day. His room was pretty empty when I was finished. 

We made him go to bed. He took a nap, then woke up hungry, so we fed him dinner, let him play for 30 minutes, and then put him back to bed. The next morning, we started over fresh and we agreed that it was a new day and he was no longer in trouble, but he was not allowed to play with water inside the house anymore (obviously bathtime not included).

So, Honey Graham and I decided that since he has an obsession with water and it’s summertime now, we’d buy him and Cocoa Puff a water table so he can play with water outside. 

I searched on Amazon and while looking at them, noticed that there’s not really quite a variety. Most of them are basically the same thing, with maybe one featured toy in each one. We finally decided on the Step 2 Octopus one. This one was reasonably priced, tall enough for Froot Loop, short enough for Cocoa Puff, and had the most potential for free play. So many others out there have specific ways you have to play with them. This one has a funnel to dump water, some cups to do the dumping, a fun octopus to spin around and make a whirlpool, and some floating toys to play with. It had a lot of potential.
