Birthday Party Under Construction! Here's How We Threw a Construction Themed Party: It was a SMASH!

I recently threw a birthday party for Froot Loop. It was for his 5th birthday. Somehow, I blinked, and he turned 5 years old! This led me to remember his sweet construction-themed birthday party from two years ago, so I put together a roundup post for how to throw a fun Construction Themed party!

For Froot Loop’s 3rd birthday party, he requested a truck party. I was able to throw together a pretty fun construction truck themed party. Here’s what I ended up with.

CAT truck centerpieces. I put confetti into the scoopers so it looked like they were distributing the confetti onto the tables. It gave a cool effect.

I wish I had thought to look for these cake toppers before ordering a cake with them. I would have saved quite a bit of money. The cake did look really awesome though!

I bought these cone candles and added them to the cake. They were so cute and everyone loved them.

These pullback truck racers went into the favor boxes. They were lots of fun.

I also included these stickers in the favor boxes.

One of these construction ducky favors went into each box as well.

I had one of these dover construction books as a prize for the game, but I never got around to actually doing the game at the party, so I just gave it to Froot Loop as an extra present.

These mini cat trucks were used as balloon weights and party favors. Froot Loop got to keep the ones used as balloon weights.

We put construction zone tape all over the house.

I made a bean bag toss game out of this diamond duct tape. I covered six large butter containers with this tape for the buckets.

I put strips of construction duct tape all over the kitchen just for fun and I also made the bean bags out of the tape. I wrapped up a half cup of beans in paper towels and then covered the paper towels with the construction tape. I made 8 of them. Froot Loop still plays with this game regularly two years later.

Froot Loop requested a number 3 balloon. This is what he got.

3rd birthday balloons. We added one of these to the balloon bunch.

I couldn’t resist getting these mylar balloons to go with the theme. I saved them and they hung over Froot Loop’s bed for quite a while (until he went nuts during naptime one day and tore everything off of his walls...)

I made a Tootsie Pop holder out of a construction hat.

Here is the tableware we used. I ordered bunches of plates, cups, and napkins. I supplemented with plain yellow and plain black plates and napkins and cups as well. I ended up with way too many and we ended up using them the next time we had company so I didn’t have to run the dishwasher twice a day. I also like to keep some on hand for when we get sick to just make life easier until we feel human again.

I set up orange cones around the house just for fun. It ended up being a fun touch. The boys still love to put these all over the yard.

These swirls were a fun decoration. I think we still have one or two of them put away.

I put yellow crepe paper and black crepe paper everywhere. I created lots of fringe with alternating strips of yellow and black. It looked really cool.

I ordered chrome tape for making a wrecking ball game. I collected all the large boxes around the house and put them outside. I made a ball out of the packing paper and wrapped it several times with regular duct tape. I tied a nylon rope around the whole thing and then taped over everything with the chrome tape. This game was the biggest hit of the party. We had the wrecking ball outside for at least a year. It withstood Texas weather for that long!

I set out some of these big cat trucks we already owned.

I got these black poster letters to create posters that were construction themed. I made a welcome sign and some other birthday signs for the party.

I had yellow and orange poster board. Froot Loop wanted to keep the signs so they hung in his room for awhile. I finally put them away, but we still have them.

Overall, the decorations were a huge hit. Froot Loop loved his party. He actually ended up having two… one for his friends and one for family an hour away. I was able to reuse a lot of the decorations and thought ahead and ordered one large cake instead of two small ones. I had to get creative cutting the cake so we could "reuse" it the next weekend, but I made it work and we all had a blast. One word of advice though: black frosting really is not the best idea for kids. When it comes out, it's rather disgusting. Actually, when it goes IN their mouths, it's pretty disgusting too!

Of course, there was tons of food.

And, Froot Loop invited all of his stuffed animals to be guests at the party. Adorable!

As far as activities for his party, I had some games planned and printed out some construction themed coloring pages for anyone who wanted to do that, but really, everyone just wanted to play outside on our swingset and play with all the toys we had in the yard (teeball, soccer balls, outdoor basketball, cars, etc).

They all took turns with the wrecking ball though! All the kids from ages 1-10 enjoyed it so much.

I can’t believe my little dude is 5. Argh! Where does the time go!? I’m going to blink and these little boys are going to be in high school!

Seems to be a very popular party theme with kiddos!

I'm a dead ringer for Jared Fogle, the former Subway guy. Up until November, 2015 I had a fairly steady part time gig entertaining at kids' birthday parties. For a reasonable fee, I'd provide the entertainment (balloon animals) and the food (a Subway platter). Needless to say, my tax returns for the past couple of years have shown a fairly significant reduction in income

Kids, they grow up so fast. My son will be 9 in ten days. I love decorating for his birthday he enjoys it so much. He is into all those superhero and cartoon themed birthdays but this construction theme is adorable. I love all the cute truck decorations and that cake looks amazing. I would love to get my sone a nice cake like that. My husband and I are still trying to decide what we want to do for his birthday.

All these games = fond childhood memories . Nintendo had so many quality games . The 90s was the golden age of gaming. Damnit makes me want to hunt down a snes now .I do have Roms but it's not the same . ... Btw Eye of the beholder was one of the greatest rpgs released for SNES.

So, who wants to help me? England, UK, 2002 (give or take), SNES (one assumes), and RPG overworld game (I think). The question is, what game did I use to play? Help me find my memory. I am half thinking of a 'marketplace' and half thinking of 'open fields', finding monsters along the way -- but I was 6 at the time, lest we forget. Not sure if the game was A Link to the Past, Breath of Fire II, Secret of Mana, Soul Blazer, or something else! Anybody know which were known/unknown at that time and place?

Link to the past 20-30 hours? Nonsense. Even on your first playthrough not knowing where anything is MIGHT take 8-10 hours if you're really taking your time. The game can be beat in 3-4 hours with all collectibles and you don't need to be some masterful speed runner to manage that. I was doing it as a kid and I'm not very good at video games. It's an amazing game but I often see it described like it's some sort of mega epic when it's something most average people could clear in an afternoon or two.

I visited various sites but the audio quality for audio songs existing at this site is really wonderful.

A Link to the Past should not be #1, in my opinion. The concept of the Zelda games is not suitable for everyone. I had to use walkthroughs for Ocarina of Time, and now I'm wondering why it's suddenly regarded as one of the greatest games ever, especially with all the hullabaloo about the Water Temple. Super Mario World on the other hand, has a easy to use/understand concept of just making it to the end of a level, with no frustrating no-hints given puzzles that you can learn from and not get frustrated with from getting lost, and again, was a pack-in game. Arguably the best of all games packaged with systems.

25 is barely enough to do the SNES justice, there are other awesome games on there that could make the list more than some of the titles you had on there, games like Pilotwings, Sim City, ActRaiser 1+2, Soul Blazer, Illusion of Gaia, Terranigma, Lufia 1+2, Demon's Crest, Secret of Evermore, Skyblazer, The Firemen, Legend of the Mystical Ninja, Stunt Race FX, Breath of Fire 1+2, Dragon View, Zombies ate my neighbors, Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts, Killer Instinct, Lost Vikings 1+2, Shadowrun... So many good memories.

Vortex? Doom? Castlevania Dracula? SSF2? Barman returns? Syndicate? Saturday night slam masters? Also European/ japanese exclusives like terranigma. Cannon fodder. Sensible soccer. final fight 3....? And castlevania 4/harvest moon and donkey Kong country should not be down in the sub top 20... C'mon dude. Sacrifice one of ur beloved rpg' s or Tetris... only chrono trig/Mario rpg/earthbound and of course zelda need to be in top 40 or so... (I hate final fantasy.

Final Fantasy 6 was the first game that ever made me feel an emotion. People give credit to 7 for that due to one major death, but the truth is 6 was a pre-apocalyptic and post-apocalyptic game. You honestly felt bad for the world seeing what it became after the villain effectively won the game. The character cast was one of the best in a video game ever. The large main cast all got personal stories even if you had to hunt for some. Some had lost loves, murdered families and one even tries to commit suicide. Some had positive stories like adopting orphans or brotherly bonds. This is the first real feels in a game.
