A List of All the Uses I could think of for Lemon Essential Oil

Here's another installment of the essential oils I love to use! This week is Lemon!
Lemon essential oil is extremely versatile. if you use only one essential oil, this would be a great one to use. It has so many uses and is so good for you. It is also safe to use around babies and young children in extreme moderation. It can even be used internally if you are careful (but don’t ask me for advice about that because I don’t use oils internally). Also, be careful because this oil, as well as other citrus oils like lime, orange, grapefruit, bergamot, etc., increase your sensitivity to the sun. If using topically, I recommend diluting with a carrier oil such as almond, olive, vegetable, etc.

Here is some information about lemon essential oil: Some use it to heal the mind and body. It is not just an oil that smells good. It can help you feel better. You can use it to clean out cuts, heal bruises, or heal other skin problems. I also put a few drops in with the laundry because it smells good and also has antiviral, antibiotic, and antimicrobial properties. It’s a good oil to add to workout clothes because it helps with the smell as well as helps get them cleaner.
If you have a minor burn without any blistering, you can put a few drops on it and rub in. This will help reduce redness, swelling and pain. If you have a severe or large burn, I wouldn't use it. Ouch!
Lemon oil can be used on a cut, even if it is open and bleeding, as long as it is a small cut. The lemon oil can help stop the bleeding and disinfect the wound since it is antibacterial. It is a little painful though, so you’ve been warned. And don’t use more than a drop or two.
I have a friend who uses lemon oil mixed with a carrier oil for her eczema. It helps soothe and heal the skin. I haven’t tried it myself, since I don’t have eczema, but she swears by it.
Lemon oil can help with motion sickness and nausea as well. Simply put a drop or two behind the ears or over the belly. Some people put a drop on their tongue, but I have never tried this and would not use it with babies or children. Citrus oil can “burn” the skin, so remember to dilute it with a carrier oil!
Lemon oil can soothe dry and chapped skin and it makes a great additive to cocoa or shea butters for additional skin treatment. It also works well on the lips. My favorite lip balm is beeswax, shea butter, coconut oil, cocoa butter, and lemon oil (with a little lavender oil too). It smells good, tastes good, and feels good.
I also use lemon in combination with lavender and frankincense for an allergy relief blend. I swear it helps. I inhale it via diffuser or pot of boiling water and I also put a drop of each into a little olive oil and rub it into my skin on my face.
I put a few drops of lemon oil in my shampoo to help with dry flaky scalp and dandruff too. You could also put the diluted oil directly on the scalp and rub in well. Also, lemon oil works well to help heal cold and canker sores quickly.
Food grade lemon oil can be added to baked goods and beverages. Just remember that one drop of the oil is equivalent to many, many cups of lemon tea. So, if you wouldn’t drink that much lemon tea at once, seriously think about whether or not you should ingest that much in oil form.
Remember I am not a doctor or healthcare professional, nor do I play one on TV!
