When your Kids are Bored or Crabby or Stuck Inside, Make this Fun, Quick, & Easy Indoor Ball Pit

Here’s an inexpensive and super easy idea for kiddos of all ages, from just sitting up to grade school (or maybe beyond since I want one too!).

It’s an indoor ball pit! I saw on Amazon that they make designated ball pit enclosures but they seem rather flimsy and expensive for what they are. I always seem to have a large amazon box lying around, so I grabbed one of the biggest I had in the garage and dumped all of our balls into it. I think we have a set of 100, a set of 24, and a few extras in there. I have another set on order so we can make the ball pit even bigger.

I bought these balls here:, but really any set of plastic ball pit balls would work just fine.

We have used these balls in the bathtub numerous times and Froot Loop always gets excited when he sees the bathtub full of balls. I even dumped the balls into the extra pack and play we had for awhile and put Froot Loop in it when he was smaller, but he wasn’t into it.

Cocoa Puff LOVES this ball pit. He loves grabbing the balls and mouthing them and picking them up and dropping them. He also likes to cruise around the box. (I need to find a slightly taller box that will support him better).

Of course now that Froot Loop sees that his little brother loves the ball pit, he wants to play with it too, which is why I bought a second set of balls. I can either put both sets into one box for a large ball pit, or divide them up so they both have their own ball pit with a reasonable amount of balls.

Cocoa Puff's favorite thing to do in the ball pit is kick his legs around to make all the balls move around. He giggles wildly every time.

I just leave the box out so either of them can jump in it. I wish I had a box big enough for ME to play in!

When I hosted a play group not long ago, both of the little guys (they were 16 months and 22 months), had a BLAST in it. I had to dump the balls into a bigger box so they could both play with it at the same time.

When was the last time you played in a ball pit? (Be honest!)
