I found this cute 6 piece magnetic, wooden rocket ship on sale at Amazon. I thought it would be a cute toy to get for Cocoa Puff for his birthday. Turns out, it was a hit!

So, this is a six piece wooden, magnetic stacking toy. There is a base, a “surprise” astronaut, and 4 magnetic pieces of spaceship that all stick together.

Even from the beginning, Cocoa Puff loved this toy. He loved to take apart the pieces and just hold them. He took the astronaut in and out, in and out, in and out of his little cubby. The astronaut is just really a little wooden peg with a coat of paint on it, and he’s close to being a choking hazard, so either remove it or monitor closely if you let young babies and/or toddlers play with him.

The pieces are made with all natural wood and non toxic paint so it’s safe for babies to play with and/or chew on. I haven’t had any problems with paint chipping or anything.

It’s a very simple toy. There’s a base and four stacking pieces of a rocket. Two of the pieces hold an astronaut. All there is to it is stacking the pieces in the right order (yes, since it’s magnetic, there’s a right way and a “wrong” way to stack them, but the pieces sort of self-correct to line up with the magnetic poles- very cool). You can stack them with or without the astronaut since he’s not magnetic in any way.

I love that it’s a simple toy. We have our fair share of electronic, light up, noisy, toys, and they get played with and are loved; however, the boys (and I!) love the simple, basic toys too. It really depends on what we’re in the mood for.

I wouldn’t say that the boys have gotten bored of this toy, in fact, Cocoa Puff gets it out every few days just like he does his VTech Go Go cars or his other stacking toys or blocks or whatever. It’s a great toy to have in your arsenal.

The pieces are very solid. They HURT when a certain 1 year old throws them and hits your toes! Thanks for that, baby. I really think that this is right up there with brands like Hape and Melissa and Doug, but I had never heard of the brand before (Svan). They have a few other really cute things on Amazon too.

The top two pieces especially give a very satisfying connection when they’re put together. Cocoa Puff loves to walk around with one piece in one little hand and the other piece in the other little hand and just put them together and pull them apart. He finds it really funny to pull them apart.

He eventually gathers up all the pieces and puts the whole thing together. I have no complaints about this toy. It’s easy enough for a baby to play with, and yet Froot Loop likes to play with it as well at the age of almost FOUR! I even like to take it apart and put it together. I tell you, the magnets are pretty strong and are very satisfying. Sounds weird to say, but try it and you’ll understand what I mean.

This is a great toy to develop hand-eye coordination, problem solving, and fine motor skills. It’s also a fun way to introduce magnetism. In our case, it’s also a great toy to teach throwing skills! (definitely not its intended purpose!)

All in all, this is a great toy. It’s educational and fun and it gets played with.

Did you ever want to be an astronaut growing up?
