Ear Tube & Adenoid Surgery Follow Up Visit with the ENT & the Audiologist: What to Expect

Today was Froot Loop's follow up visit with the ENT and the Audiologist. I decided to make a day of it and brought my mom along with us so we could go out to eat and do some shopping and stuff.

The visit really wasn't that big of a deal. They were just checking to make sure the ear tubes were in the right place and that his hearing was fine and that everything was how it's supposed to be after surgery.

I think the drive up took longer than the time spent with each doctor. As almost always, we got checked in immediately and got called back almost right away too. My mom stayed in the waiting room to check emails and make a call. They took Froot Loop's vitals and everything was perfect. We went into the room and the nurse and I went over his chart. She asked a bunch of questions and everything was fine. The doctor came back (who was also the surgeon, and we really like him. He's a goofball and very sweet.) and checked his ears and nose and throat. His ear tubes looked perfect. His throat was still a little scratchy, but that's likely from allergies since we had this crazy cold front blow in and all of us are sneezing and coughing.

The ENT expects Froot Loop to be totally recovered within days. He noticed that Froot Loop was already breathing through his nose a lot better! So, the surgery was definitely a success and everything is great! We still have to be careful for a while to not get water in his ears, but he just needs to wear his silicone ear plugs in the bathtub and avoid going swimming for a while.

Relief! I wasn't really worried about it, but it's always great to know that everything is going as expected. We have a followup in 6 months to a year, and then that's it!

Then, we had his hearing test, and fortunately, this time, the audiologist was in a better mood and was much nicer than the last time. She said everything looked normal and all his hearing parameters are in acceptable limits. Yay!

Then, I took him and my mom out to the Chinese Buffet for lunch. I was surprised at how much Froot Loop ate! He ate a TON! Then, we went shopping and Froot Loop konked out on the way home for awhile. He's been wound up the rest of the day. It's going to be a rough week for him with 3 days of Thanksgiving ahead of him!

Do your kids go crazy when their routines change?
