Natural and Organic Shampoo & Conditioner Review

A few years ago, I stopped using “traditional” shampoo and conditioner. I started avoiding parabens and sulfates. Most shampoo and conditioner has sodium laureth sulfate in it. I was in Austin one day and went to Sprouts. I thought maybe I should look for shampoo there since they have a lot of natural products there. I found this brand of shampoo and conditioner called Natures Gate and it was on sale where if you bought the shampoo, you got the conditioner free! Well, I had never paid that much for shampoo or conditioner before (I was always an herbal essenses girl before that), but I thought I’d give it a try.
I fell in love with it the first time I used it. It smelled amazing! I got the herbal because of the scent in the store. They do have other scents and varieties. I would absolutely get the formula with tea tree oil in it if I developed a scratchy, itchy, flaky scalp.
The ingredients of the shampoo: Ingredients
Water, disodium laureth sulfosuccinate, cocamide DEA, sodium laureth sulfate, urtica dioica (nettle) extract, salvia officinalis (sage) leaf extract, chamomilla recutita (matricaria) flower extract, lavandula angustifolia (lavender) extract, achillea millefolium (yarrow) extract, rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary) leaf extract, thymus vulgaris (thyme) extract, prunus serotina (wild cherry) bark extract, cocamidopropyl betaine, polyquaternium-10, citric acid, sodium chloride, butylene glycol, .
The ingredients of the conditioner: Water, cetearyl alcohol, quaternium-87, polysorbate 60, chamomilla recutita (matricaria) flower extract, urtica dioica (nettle) extract, prunus serotina (wild cherry) bark extract, lavandula angustifolia (lavender) flower extract, arctium lappa (burdock) root extract, yucca schidigera root extract, lilium candidum (white lily) bulb extract, nelumbo nucifera (sacred lotus) flower extract, quercus alba (oak) bark extract, butylene glycol, glyceryl undecylenate, phenoxyethanol, fragrance, caramel.
I don’t wash my hair every day. I wash it about 3 days a week, especially in the winter, unless I’m working out, then I do wash it every day. After about 2 weeks of using this shampoo and conditioner, my hair was a totally new being. It has more life. It was actually shinier.
Sulfate free shampoo and conditioner is better for my hair. Sulfates are detergents and they do TOO good of a job of cleansing hair and end up stripping your hair and scalp of all of its natural oils. This leaves your hair dry and more vulnerable to damage like split ends and fraying and frizzing. Sodium Lauryl Sulfate and Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate are the most common sulfates in shampoo and conditioner and other cosmetics.
Sulfate free shampoo and conditioner has milder detergents that clean your hair and scalp without taking away all of the oils, but since they have chemical makeup that are more difficult to thicken, they do not suds and bubbles as much as regular shampoo and conditioner.
After my two week trial, I decided to permanently switch. I love the scent. I love how it makes my hair feel. I also love that my hair is stronger and softer and not as frayed and damaged.
I also use the herbal scented Natures Gate lotion. It is not as thick as other lotions, but man it smells good. I have to apply it a little more often, but it is worth it to me.
