Today is going to be a two-fer Tuesday! TWO reviews on ice cream toys, because who doesn't love ice cream? Well, who besides me, because I'm lactose sensitive and cannot eat ice cream... but I do love me some frozen yogurt!

Froot Loop has quiet time in his room every afternoon, unless he naps (which is hit or miss depending on how crazy his morning was). I had gotten these plastic ice cream sets two years ago to take on vacation with us, so I moved them into his room to use as a quiet time activity.

These were great for travelling because they’re cheap and yet a lot of fun. If Froot Loop happened to lose some of the pieces, no big deal. Plus they were small and enabled a lot of pretend play as well as educational play. Plus, they’re ICE CREAM!

The quality of these ice cream pieces is not great, I will say that up front. They’re made of a thin plastic and the velcro is just glued on. I’ve had to replace a few of the velcro coins in the last two years. It’s annoying, but not a huge deal. Super glue is awesome.

I actually bought two different sets because the first one I ordered had 5 chocolate ice cream scoops out of the 9 in the set. Hey, I love chocolate, but I was hoping for a greater variety of colors. The second set I ordered had a bunch of other colors including blue and green and purple! Froot Loop loves having blueberry, mint, and grape flavors. Sometimes he gets a little silly and we have green pepper ice cream or eggplant ice cream.

The set includes 9 ice cream scoops with velcro on the top and bottom, 2 pointy sugar cones with velcro on the top, 1 cake cone with velcro on the top, 2 ice cream cups with velcro on the top, an ice cream scooper, and a spoon.

The ice cream scooper is actually pretty nice. It’s the highest quality piece of the whole set. The scoops and cones are hollow inside and one of the scoops imploded when it was stepped on. I tried to fix it but was unable to. The ice cream cups are the next best pieces in the set. Both of the spoons were lost on our trip. Oh well. No big loss.

One of the fun ways we like to play with these is to play ice cream shop, where we take turns taking and making the orders. It’s a good way to learn how to follow instructions. We’ve also used them for patterns and sorting and even addition and subtraction. Ice cream + math = lots of fun!

It’s fun to see how many scoops you can put on top of each other until the stack falls over. The velcro is not super sticky so you can only get about 4-6 scoops before it collapses. It’s pretty fun though!

The pieces are small, but not *TOO* small. It really does make a great toy to bring while travelling, or even to keep in a diaper/preschooler bag.

What kind of ice cream cone do you order?
