Bounce, Bounce, Baby! Review of a Make Your Own Bouncy Balls Kit for Kids! (A Great Rainy Day Activity!)

Today's review is for a fun project Froot Loop and I did over spring break!
Yes, we made bouncy balls!
The kit comes with everything shown here. The mold halves fit well together and there was a good variety of colors available, including two colors of glow in the dark powder! Fun!
First, you need to set up your work area. You can only make 2 balls at a time since you only have 2 molds, and each round takes about 10 minutes. Fill the mold with your desired color(s). We tried different color combinations and tried making layers as well as shaking the mold after adding two colors to make a speckled effect. Fill to just below the lip opening.
Then, you have to put the mold into a cup, and hold onto it as you cover it with warm water. Let it sit for 5 minutes.
Take out the molds and put them on newspaper. Let sit for another 5 minutes.
Turn upside down and let the water drain for a second or two.
Take the molds off! There you go! Bouncy balls!
We made so many different colors. I like the purple and pink speckled one here.
These are the octogon balls.
And here are the spheres.
The kit says it makes 18 balls, but we got 21 1/2 out of it. One of them dried with a huge hole in the side for some reason.
The balls bounce pretty well, but you have to store them in a plastic bag or else they'll dry out and not bounce as well. We did this, and one of the balls started growing mold! The rest of them were just fine though, so I have no idea what was up with that one.
It was a little annoying that they only included 2 molds and that each round took 10 minutes. It took all day to make these balls, and Froot Loop got frustrated waiting.
The balls are pretty gooey when you take the molds off. I would use this opportunity to roll them in my hands for a few seconds, and this seemed to make the sides smoother.
All in all, it was worth the $10 or so we spent on it, but I don't think I'd get it again. I did get a small party set that comes with multiple molds and colors for the kiddos and cousins to do at Easter, and I saved these molds so that we can do more than just 1 at a time!
A couple weeks later, Froot Loop still plays with them, but they certainly don't bounce as high as they did the day after we made them. They are still a lot of fun though!
What fun activities did you do over spring break?
