Colorful Sensory Bottles: A Super Fun Way for Babies & Toddlers to Learn about Mixing Colors

I made a super fun sensory bottle recently, and it was SO EASY and so fun. The boys both love it and it's an awesome way to teach mixing colors. Read on for the details.

What you need:

Empty Water Bottle

Plastic Counting Chips

Water

Optional: Hot Glue

Easiest sensory activity ever. What we did was poured out the bag of counting chips, sorted them by color, counted 50 of each color, and put them in the bottle. Then I filled it with regular water.

I split the piles of red, yellow, and blue into equal piles so that they could go into two bottles each to make our secondary colors.

Then, I hot glued the caps onto the bottles and let it dry, then let Cocoa Puff at them! Look at the pictures below for our fun!

He wanted to pick them up and carry them around.

He also took them and shook them so he could see all the colors dance around.

SHAKE SHAKE SHAKE! We talked about how the two colors made a third color when mixed together.

He wanted to line them up on the table and look at all of them at once.

He was absolutely mesmerized by the swirling colors.

It was really funny when he tried to pick up all three of them at once and carry them around.

But he couldn't quite do it.

We're working on other ways to mix colors too: with paints and light paddles and so forth. He's getting it!

What's your favorite color?

Thank you! I think he really enjoyed it. My oldest came home from Pre-K and also played with them and had a lot of fun. He's learning to mix colors in school so he was able to tell me what the secondary colors were!
