Froot Loop & I Made a Gingerbread House! Here's How it Turned Out...

There's a bit of a tradition we do in our family every year. We make a gingerbread house! I end up doing most of the work, but the kids try to help too!
Froot Loop and I made this really fun Wilton Gingerbread House that I picked up from the store. He picked it out! We also got a Paw Patrol Lookout Tower gingerbread sculpture, but I'm saving that for winter break, which starts this Friday!
I was pretty disappointed when I opened the box and there were some major cracks in the house, but I quickly patched them with frosting and let it dry for awhile while Froot Loop and I talked about our strategy for decorating. He asked for the red fondant to go on the roof, so I did that first. It took awhile since I don't have a lot of experience with fondant. I had to add a little coconut oil to make it workable. Eventually, I got it done.
The first thing he wanted to do was put the gumdrops on the roof in a green, red, green, red pattern.
Then, he wanted to decorate one side with the rest of the green gumdrops.
And the rest of the red gumdrops went on the other side.
Then, he and I put all of the holly sprinkles on the roof and on the back of the house.
I love how the roof looked when we were all done.
Finally, we decorated the front of the house with the candy canes and the rest of the ingredients.
We had such a good time doing this together and I am looking forward to doing the Paw Patrol one next! Overall, the gingerbread house could have been better, and it was pretty hard to do, but once I got the fondant and the icing on, the decorating part was a lot of fun, and easy enough for even the kids to do.
Have you ever made a gingerbread house?

Last year we got fun ugly Xmas sweater cookies to decorate from Trader Joe’s. That was easier for my 3yo to handle.
My son won an awesome one last year so we didn't have to make one.
We're going to get going with our one next week!
