Bird Feeder Craft for Kids: A Messy & Fun Way to Spend Part of an Afternoon Together

Have your kids been on Christmas break for a whole week like my oldest has? Are they going as bonkers as my kids? UGH! Here's a fun craft y'all can do together that also makes a great last minute Christmas present.

It turned out so cute! Here's all you need for it:

Bird Seed

Peanut Butter

Toilet Paper Rolls

Jute String

Hole punch

A paper plate or a tray of some kind.

Dump out a small amount of your bird seed onto your paper plate or other surface.

Punch two holes in the top of your paper tube and tie string to both holes.

Use a knife or small spreader to coat the paper tube in a thin layer of peanut butter.

Take a minute to admire your work area...

Play with the peanut butter.

Roll your paper tube around in the birdseed until it is covered.

Play with the remaining birdseed and sprinkle it on top of the paper tube to make sure it's not only all over the paper tube but the table and the floor as well!

Hang your new birdfeeder to dry (and then help Mama clean up all the birdseed!)

What kind of birds do you have where you live?

I love this idea! I may even have my teens try this out :)

Sure! And they could even probably do it totally by themselves too! :-)

My son would love this! He loves painting bird feeders but this is way more fun

It WAS a TON of fun. The peanut butter spreading was kind of like painting. MESSY.

How fun, especially to attract birds during a season where it's hard for birds to find food!
Mama Writes Reviews - December 22, 2017 12:29 PM
Yes, exactly!

We have 3 Cardinal birds that have found our front yard tree. My boys love watching them & this would be a great & easy project over break!

Absolutely! They've attracted a lot of birds at our house and Grandma's house.

I remember making bird feeders like these when growing up! I can’t wait till my little girl is old enough to make this with her.

It was so much fun with my boys. My youngest is 2 and that was a good age to start it.

A simple classic!! I'm not sure a single kid that hasn't done this (except maybe ones that are allergic to peanuts). Lots a fun!
Mama Writes Reviews - December 22, 2017 2:06 PM
I think I did this in elementary school, actually. :)

This is one of our favorite activities! We have a lot of squirrels too so it is very entertaining to watch them try to get the tubes down!
Mama Writes Reviews - December 23, 2017 11:05 AM
Haha. Squirrels are hilarious!

So cute and simple! I love doing crafts like this one. My kids would love to spot birds eating the seeds. Thank you for sharing!

My boys love watching the birds eat their feeders. We've already had to make several more!

Fantastic idea! We'll definitely try this with our nephews and niece. I wonder if you could use tallow for instead of peanut butter?

Thanks
Mama Writes Reviews - December 23, 2017 11:06 AM
Yes, you can. We used PB because we had it handy.

Yep! The birds absolutely decimated the one we made for my friend! They've been nibbling on my mom's too.
