Kids Bored? Rainy Day? Let them play Mini Golf indoors!

Froot Loop had way too much destructive energy today so I made him an obstacle course for him to roll a ball through. Then we got the idea to grab his toy golf clubs so he could hit the ball through the obstacles! After he did this a few times, we let him free play.
Materials:
Masking tape
or painters tape
Construction paper
Toilet Paper/Paper Towel tubes
Orange Cones
Bouncy Ball
Ping Pong Ball
Glitter Pom Pom
Various recyclables/objects
To start, I taped a few empty toilet paper tubes to the floor. I wondered if these would be too difficult for him, so I cut some construction paper lengthwise into four strips per page and taped the ends down to make arches for the ball to go through.
I tried to tape them down at different angles and different lengths apart and even did a double arch just for fun.
I found an edge/corner protector from a dresser I ordered a while back that we sometimes use as a car ramp and I taped that to the floor too for a different type of obstacle.
Then I thought maybe the orange cones would be fun since Froot Loop LOVES using those things. I scattered a few around the course for him to go around or through or whatever.
It was a learning experience. Froot Loop did not understand how to hold the club at all and had a hard time hitting the ball around with any control.
He did have a blast, but he really prefered just rolling the ball around. The bouncy ball kind of “stuck” to the little clubs, but a ping pong ball worked well.
It rolled pretty far… almost too far, so I found a large glitter pom pom in our box of balls and that worked perfectly. He could hit it but it wouldn’t roll too far.
Overall, it was a pretty fun activity and I’m sure it could be expanded once he gains better control over the golf clubs. I’d like to use different color arches and maybe a spinner to determine which color arch he has to hit the ball through next.
I could also do arches with letters or numbers on them so he could spell words or count.
I love how open ended this activity is. Once he started free play, he was moving cones around and coming up with different ideas for the balls and clubs. He’s very creative.
I think I’ll leave this activity out for another day or two since it was such a big hit!
Do you know how to golf?
