Ring Ring! Baby's First "Cell Phone" Review
There’s a meme around the internet that says something about if a two year old hands you a toy phone, you’d better answer it...
One of the very first toys that Froot Loop had was a toy phone from Fisher Price.
Long story short, we ended up buying 2 more of these. It’s not that the phone wasn’t durable or anything… My son accidentally destroyed his first phone (his fault, not the phone's). I bought a replacement right away because it was one of his favorites. The second one wore out from use, but it made it through Froot Loop and to Cocoa Puff before wearing out. So, we bought him yet another one.
It is great for car rides and waiting rooms because it is not very loud. There's lots of fun songs and noises and it lights up. Yes, it is an electronic toy, and I’m not totally against those, as long as there is plenty of “unplugged” time too.
This was one of the toys that we used in the car because it kept the boys occupied and QUIET! Cocoa Puff learned how to hold the phone to his ear and babble into it just like Mama does. Soon, he was “calling” Grandma and Grandma’s cat and his Sunday School teacher and Gramma and who knows who else. It was hilarious.
Froot Loop held it up to his ears too, but looking back, I think it was more because he couldn’t hear it. It is not very loud, which is a GOOD THING.
It looks like there’s 9 different “apps” to push, but really, it’s one big button. You can press the “apps” to get a specific song or phrase though, as the button “moves” in 9 different directions.
It’s a nice toy for a baby or toddler to keep them busy for a little while without being super annoying to caregivers. No, it’s not really like a grownup smartphone, but that’s okay. It works and it’s fun.
