Paintings as Pretty as the Foliage! Handprint and Fingerprint Autumn Tree Pictures!

I needed an activity to keep the boys calm while I was recovering from my procedures at the GI, and I had just bought a bunch of paint, so I reached deep into the crevices of my brain and thought of this adorable craft to do with the boys.
I did this three slightly different ways, so I'll share how we did each one.

We started by tracing his hand and arm three times on the paper.
He couldn't wait to start! He just could NOT wait to get his fingers dirty!
Off he goes! He had a lot of fun.
Once he started, he did not want to stop!
He dipped it in the paint, swished it around a bit, and then did three dots on the paper before getting more paint.
He did his first tree all orange! Then, he did one in yellow, and one in red. He even did some falling leaves! Then, we did a layer of grass on the bottom.
Aw, how sweet! I like how he did each tree a different color
After we were done, I let Cocoa Puff finger paint on his own since Froot Loop wasn't due home from school for another couple of hours and I wanted to use up the rest of his paint.
For Froot Loop, I decided to paint the tree trunks ahead of time. Then when he was ready, we traced his hands on top of the tree trunks. Then, I painted them with the brown paint and we let it dry for a few minutes.
He ALMOST could do the tracing by himself, but not quite.
He was pretty excited to start and he immediately went for the red paint.
It was interesting how meticulous he was. He did one color, one tree, at a time.
He didn't want to stop! He did all of his red dots, then all of his orange dots, then his green dots (he wanted some green leaves, not green grass), then yellow.
He just kept going! He finished up with the yellow paint, and it really made the other colors pop!
Look how pretty his picture turned out! I just LOVE it!
He was very proud of his painting and it immediately went up onto our art wall.
Now, for mine, I did something different. I wanted to do one large tree, so I traced my arm and my hand, then I traced my other hand on top of it, overlapping my pinky fingers. I think this made a really cool tree shape.
Here's how mine turned out. I'm pretty happy with it and I like how the colors sort of blend together!
I think that the blending is because I used the "wet on wet" paint technique. Thanks, Bob Ross, for the idea!
I miss living in an area with crazy colorful, pretty foliage. Here in South Texas, we get one red leaf and it's like, Hey, here's fall... that's it! The most beautiful foliage I remember was when I lived in the Poconos. That was some crazy beautiful foliage there.
How's the foliage where you live?
