Mixing it Up! A Mixed Media Collage Just for Valentine's Day

Ohhhh Cocoa Puff... He likes going to preschool so much that on his days home, he gets bored and always wants to do stuff with MAMA! Most of the time that's okay, but sometimes, Mama needs to get things done. So, I let him go with a bunch of art supplies and told him to have fun while he crafted and I sat next to him, working.

Here's the finished product.

Here's what he started with.

The first thing he wanted to do was put some melty beads and fake rose petals on there. I gave him a big glue stick and told him to go to town with it.

He asked if he could use some of my Heart Gems, so I gave him a handful and he glued them to it as well.

He asked for some small pieces of Burlap Ribbon, so I cut him a few and he shredded them and glued them to the paper. They didn't stick very well, so I think I'm going to Modge Podge them.

You can't have a Valentine's Day collage without red and pink pompoms!

Next, he added some Crinkle Paper. Surprisingly, they stuck well enough.

Then he started tearing up some crepe paper streamers, and more of it ended up on the floor than on the paper, so I had to put a stop to that.

I made him a few pipe cleaner hearts and we tried to glue those to the paper too, but they didn't stick. I'll have to Modge Podge those too.

Have you ever made a mixed media masterpiece?

Great project! To me, these are "school" projects for my girls. That probably makes me a horrible mother but the mess, the fuss, the screaming -- + then there's the kids :)
