"Logic is the beginning of wisdom ... not the end." -Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country

Ah, Star Trek... once again, a perfect quote for humanity. To go with that quote, here are a handful of games that help strengthen those logic skills!

Tetris Cube Puzzle; 3" x 3" x 3" - Play with the time-honored Tetris game pieces, and let them test your brain's limits. These Tetris Brainteasers are fun for every generation. the included booklet poses different levels of challenges.

Gravity Maze Marble Run: This gravity powered logic maze is sure to put your visual perception and reasoning skills to the test. The towers can be arranged in a wide variety of visually stimulating structures but, for each challenge, you’ll have to think carefully to build a path that will carry your marble to the Target Tower. Your Goal: Create a maze that will carry a marble from the Start Position to the Target Tower. Select a challenge and set up the towers on the game grid to match. Determine where to add the indicated towers to the grid. Position the towers so that the marble falls from the Start Position to the Target Tower and — you win.

Circuit Maze: With Circuit Maze, your goal is to create a real electrical circuit that lights up designated beacons. The 60 challenges are tricky and clever, providing hours of electrifying fun. Plus, when playing Circuit Maze, you will discover how circuits actually work. Your Goal: Arrange the tokens to form a circuit path to light up the beacons indicated on the challenge card. Select a challenge card. Set up the game grid to match the challenge. Determine where to add the indicated tokens to the grid. Position the tokens so that the Beacons light up and–You Win.

Lazer Maze: Lights and mirrors may make it feel like magic, but it’s really science and a good dose of brain power that’s needed to direct the laser beam through this series of mind challenging mazes. Your Goal: Arrange the tokens to reflect and split the laser beam to hit the targets. Select a challenge card. Set up the game grid to match the challenge. Determine where to add the indicated tokens to the grid. Position the tokens so that the laser hits the targets and you win!

Rush Hour Traffic Jam: Escape! That’s your goal. Rush Hour is the premier sliding block game that challenges beginners and experts alike. Honk! Honk! It's gridlock and the little red car can't move. The player is a traffic cop in the Rush Hour Traffic Jam Puzzle where the objective is to get the red car off the road. To play, pick one of 40 challenge cards; solutions are printed on the back of each card. Then set up the cars and buses in a specified pattern on the 6-inch-square road grid. Move the vehicles one by one (obey those traffic laws!) until the red car can escape the traffic jam. There are four levels of difficulty. Kids can alternate turns with another player or just "play in traffic" alone. The game from Binary Arts received a national award from Mensa and is used in elementary school math classes. The design includes clear instructions printed on the sturdy box, which can be used both as a playing tray and for storage. The game cards stow away in a drawer in the road grid.

Q-bitz: Practice your symmetry, visual dexterity, quick thinking, and competitive nature. Q-bitz stimulates the brain to use spatial reasoning and memory skill making it perfect for both the classroom and at home. With Q-bitz, it's not the same game over and over again. You get 80 different puzzle cards that you can compete to complete in 3 different ways. That's over 200 different ways to play. Combine that with different friends and you have a new experience every time. Each game contains three rounds, each round with a different card. Players puzzle over how to recreate the patterns on the game cards using their set of 16 cubes. The first player to match the pattern wins the card. The player with the most cards, wins the game.

Qwirkle: As in Scrabble, the game starts with players drawing their own "hand" of six tiles. The player with the most tiles that share something in common (color or symbol) plays their pieces and wins points. And so it goes until the pieces make up a giant grid. One rule adults will likely need to reiterate to little ones is that duplicate tiles aren't allowed. For instance, if someone has three diamonds, and two of them are green, they can only play one of those green diamonds on a turn. As play continues and the stakes get higher, younger kids may need some help deciding where to build to maximize their points. To keep younger children engaged, parents can distribute half the number of tiles to start. The game is over when all the tiles have been played and all the points have been tallied.

Quick cup is a great intellectual game for 2-4 players aged 6+, can develop children's intelligence and stimulate children's thinking ability. Speed Cups is a good toy for promote Parent-child interactive. Sturdy and perfect for practicing at home or anywhere. Excellent for working on hand-eye coordination as well. These cups are made of durable, non-toxic and BPA-free plastic material to meet top safety standards.

Blokus is the strategy game for the whole family! Players take turns placing pieces of their chosen color on the board. Each new piece must touch at least one other piece of the same color-but only at the corners! When the board is full, each player counts up the squares in their remaining pieces and the player with the least number of squares wins! Ages 5 and older.

Roller Coaster Challenge: Buckle up and get ready to twist and turn your mind as you attempt to solve 40 exhilarating roller coaster challenges. When you think you’ve constructed a successful ride, give your car a little push and watch it glide down the track. Your mind will bend in loops as it stretches to solve the leveled challenges. When you’re ready for a little free-form play, get creative and use the tracks to build your own elaborate gravity-defying thrill rides. Your Goal:Create a roller coaster track that will carry your car from start to finish.

Perplexus Original is the game that’s easy to play and hard to master! See if you have what it takes to solve the maze puzzle! Hold the clear plastic sphere in your hands and rotate it 360 degrees to move the silver ball inside along the numbered course. Make it to the end without falling and you win! If your ball slips, head to start and keep on rolling! With 100 challenges to take on, the Perplexus Original is a challenging and fun portable game!

The dogs come in all shapes and sizes, so you'll have to figure out how they nestle together to solve each challenge. Paw your way through all 48 puzzles and you're the top dog!.

Flexi Puzzle is made up of 12 colorful plastic cubes that are connected via an elastic string. Each cube has a slot on each side, enabling them to move about the string. Simply pull, twist, and turn the cubes in every direction to rearrange their order. To begin a game, choose a challenge and follow the illustrations to find the solution. If you get stuck, solutions can be found at the back of the challenge book.

Can you Kanoodle? Using combinations of colored connected beads, players complete colorful logic puzzles in two unique formats: tricky 2D puzzles and twisted 3D pyramids. To start, pick a design from the puzzle book, place some of the puzzle pieces into position as shown…then fill the empty spaces with the remaining pieces. Sounds simple? It can be…or it can be deviously difficult, depending on the level of game play. Hundreds of possible combinations, but only one completes the puzzle. Puzzle pieces fit inside the handy pocket-sized case with built-in game boards, so you can Kanoodle anywhere. Includes 12 puzzle pieces, 48-page illustrated puzzle book, and carrying case. I love logic games and played them growing up a ton – and I think it has a lot to do with why I think so analytically now!

I've never been too good at these kind of games but I do have to admit Q-Bitz is a lot of fun! I always used to play that with a boy I used to babysit!

These games look so amazing! I am currently working on teaching my granddaughter strategy through basic games. This weekend when we went to the park I noticed that her tag strategy had changed from previous weeks when she would simply run around tagging people. Really cool to see her thinking a few steps ahead. I will have to pick out a few of these to play with her. Thanks as always for the great ideas.

I like these. But I have to think a way for kids to speak because I am a preschool in an ESL school and our boss makes us make the kids speak.

The nephews are at the age where they're in to these kinds of things, so I might have to ass a few to their Christmas lists! I think they'll be all for it :-D

First of all, LOVE the title of this post. I really wish someone would make the multi-tiered chess game from Star Trek.

Logic games and puzzles are my favorites! The kids in my family love them too so I still get to enjoy. I’ve played most of these.

I’m a Trekkie! Love Spock Kirk and Bones from TOS but many of the characters from other series as well. Have you seen the newest series Star Trek Discovery? Wow it’s so good! Amazing cinematography for a television show. This last season featured Captain Pike and a young Spock.

Great selection! Our little ones aren't quite ready for these types of games yet (Quirkle soon maybe), so I'm pinning this for later.
