Quickie Questions: Principal Edition

Whew. It's already time again for another Quickie Question... just answer in the comments so we can get to know each other better.

Have you ever met with your/your kids' principal?

This is happening for me today, and last week I met with the superintendent. What's going on? My kids are fine, I'm fine. There's been some developments in our school district that I am very unhappy with and I have been very outspoken and public about them. The administration isn't very happy with me for speaking up about it, even though they STILL haven't said anything about the situation, and they've had countless chances to... hence the meetings.

Here's hoping I get the answers we need... and possibly more posts will come.

I hope things get resolved. As a former teacher I understand the struggle with trying to talk with administration.

My oldest is on 2 1/2 so principal office visits yet. Hopefully he doesn't turn out like me: My parents had multiple visits to the principal's office during my high school career....

My daughter’s principal is fairly new but has big plans for the school- I’m hoping she has time to start getting to know the parents soon, we’re having issues in our area too

Unfortunately, we meet with my oldest son's principal quite frequently. We've also had several large admin meetings involving his school, which are intimidating at the very least but usually everyone is very friendly and we resolve whatever issue is ongoing pretty quickly. Best of luck to you!

I am a preschool teacher and I have met with the school's principal several times.

I don't think it's too uncommon for parents to meet with the principal. I remember my mom meeting with my grade school principal on a few occasion about things going on in the school!

My son isn't in school yet, but I know that I'll be the mom who meets the principal, the teacher, and anybody who deals with my child on a daily basis. I'll be in their face when I need to be. Why? Because my parents were like this. And just as much as a teacher teaches, so do the parents need to be on track with what's going on. Hope everything gets resolved for you to your satisfaction!

Yes! I have definitely had meetings with the principal. With my oldest I visited the principal less than a handful of times but with my youngest I had to see two different principals several times over my son getting bullied and them not doing anything about it. I had to threaten legal action against them if they didn't obey the laws here because bullying is illegal in my state. Not to mention anti-bullying is a part of their mantra yet they weren't doing anything about the bullies other than "talking to them". so yeah, I know all about meetings with the principal. Best of luck to you. We are our children's best advocates.

I homeschool, so I am the principal. :-)

It's awesome that your reason for meeting with the principal isn't behavior related! Although I have to admit, I was quite the spitfire growing up and often ended up in the principal's office for some hilarious prank I was pulling. It's a still a running joke with my parents that they became best buds with my principal :)

Good on you for having a voice and actually USING it. I hope that whatever it is gets resolved to everyone's benefit!

I was always lucky to know my children's principals. While I rarely had formal meetings with any of them, I was comfortable just dropping by or emailing to discuss my concerns. It may have helped that I taught in a neighboring district and they knew that. However, the one thing I never did was go above the classroom teacher's head without discussing an issue with him or her first. Following the chain of command and being clear about your expectations is a must!

I hope the meeting was productive. I’ve met with all of my kid’s principles. I’m *that* parent. Lol.

So important is having a meeting or two with your child's principal. Many times, they know a lot more about our child while they are school when you are away from them.

When my daughter was younger, she loved anything with stickers. She would spend hours putting them all over her toys, and she would also love to put them on her school papers. My husband and I would often find her glued to her computer screen, writing stories or making crafts. So when we saw the Quickie Questions Principal Edition, we knew it would be perfect for her.
