LEGOLAND Discovery Center San Antonio: Is it WORTH IT?

Y'all, they now have a LEGOland Discovery Center in SAN ANTONIO! That's right! I got tickets during a half-off promotion and we took the kids there for an end-of-school year treat. It was AMAZING.
The place was incredible. And my kids are LEGO maniacs. Heck, even Honey Graham and I are LEGO maniacs, so we were hoping to have our socks knocked off. It did not disappoint!
P.S. We're such LEGO fans here that we've converted an old piano bench into a LEGO table, and had SEVERAL LEGO Wishlist Wednesday posts (like this Doctor Who, Hogwarts Castle, and Space Shuttle). To see what LEGO/DUPLO sets I've reviewed, check these out: LEGO JUNIORS SETS, DUPLO blocks, My First Playhouse and Boat sets, and Duplo Police Bike.
So, we went into the Riverwalk Mall and walked over to the new addition where the LEGOland Discovery Center is. I'm pretty weird, but I was really amused by the line barrier posts that were filled with LEGOS.
The boys were SUPER DUPER excited but were very good waiting in line. When you order your tickets, you order a specific time you can get in, which made the lines pretty much non-existent. We took the elevator up to the FOURTH FLOOR!
When we got out, a Mideval scene welcomed us, including a Court Jester minifig.
And there were murals in every direction which helped keep us amused while we waited for the first ride.
This was the boys' favorite thing... it's a LAMP that looks like the LEGO flames. I really want one for our house too!
Finally it was our turn for the ride. There's no photography or videography allowed, but basically, you sit in one of those train cars and have a laser gun and you have to shoot at things as you ride around and help save the dragon egg! Yes, it counts up your points for you, but that was really all there was to it. It was fun to do, but not something you'd probably do again and again and again.
Next, was the LEGO display room. Y'all. They built SAN ANTONIO OUT OF LEGOS! Words can't even describe it, so I'll just include all the photos below. I was AMAZED... they had the Riverwalk and Spurs stadium and the Missions... they thought of everything. The lights go from a "daytime" mode to a "nighttime" mode so I tried to get a combination of photos.
Plus, the blacklight made the kids' clothes light up, which was a huge hit!
Then, around the corner was the huge room with all the other activities. It was HUGE!
There was a fun table where you could build a tower and then turn on the "earthquake pad" to see how sturdy your tower/building was! The kids both did this over and over and had lots of laughs!
There were also several tables over in the LEGO Friends area, which allowed for free building, but also had a bunch of "challenges" you could try to duplicate.
Plus, the LEGO builds of the Friends characters were VERY impressive!
There was also a 4-D movie (there's several that they rotate through and we saw the Ninjago one), which was a lot of fun too. There were 3-D glasses, and then there's extra elements such as water and a breeze that comes from the room during certain parts of the movie.
And of course, there was a MASSIVE, giant playplace! The kids spent a lot of time in there while Honey Graham supervised. I took the opportunity to explore a little more.
There were several of these free building centers for older kids, younger kids, or even adults to tinker with.
There were centers to build and race your own cars. These centers were very busy.
There is a small cafe in there too, because once you leave LEGOLAND, you can't re-enter with your ticket. The food was overpriced for what it was, but it tasted good enough.
There was also a LEGO DUPLO play area designed for kids 3 and under. It was really cute.
I went on the Wizard ride with both of the boys separately. It was FUN! That is a ride we'd go on again and again!
And the BATHROOMS! They were IMMACULATE! I don't think I've ever seen such clean bathrooms!
Finally, we got our chance to build some racers!
Then, the boys just wanted to free build over in the FRIENDS area, and they spent like, 20 minutes trying to find all the wheelbarrows and fruits/veggies.
They had a lot of fun over there too!
Be warned! You exit through the LEGO shop and there are TONS and TONS of LEGO sets there... including this Windmill one that Froot Loop now insists he can't live without! He also saw all of the UniKitty LEGO sets as well as all of the Minecraft LEGO sets, so basically, I'm pretty much done finding ideas for his birthday in a few months...
Really, my ONLY complaint was that the music was this bouncy, irritating loop, but I was able to shut it out of my mind. I mean, it could have been worse... it could have been the Catchy Song... "This song's gonna get stuck inside your, this song's gonna get stuck inside your, this song's gonna get stuck inside your HEAAAAAAAADDDDDD..."
WHOO! It was such a fun day, and I was VERY impressed with the LEGOLAND discovery center. Paying full price would be very steep for a family of 4, but getting it half price like we did made it very well worth it, and we'll probably go again if they have another offer like that. Plus, San Antonio is SO MUCH CLOSER than the next closer one in Dallas!
I'll leave you with this question: What are your favorite LEGO sets?

We are massive Lego fans here. I wish we had places like this here, we would probably move in :-p
