Tools to Help Teach Math to Kids

Math can be hard to teach and hard to learn. I made a list of toys and tools that can help those kiddos learn some math skills!

Counting bears It encourages kids to use sorting skills and helps them develop the pincer movement. while they dump the bears out and return to the cups using their thumb and pointer finger. these counting bears are perfect subjects to teach young children mathematical concepts such as addition, subtraction and even multiplication!

Two-color counters are excellent for sorting, counting, and probability activities. Great for teaching many early math concepts and build counting skills without noise. 

Place value discs: Place value can be a hard concept for kids to pick up. This set of discs is color coded for easy recognition. 

Transparent counting chips are a hands-on manipulative, great for learning counting, sorting, grouping, addition, and subtraction.The transparency of these chips makes them ideal for use with an overhead projector as you model concepts for the whole class. Great with light-boxes too.

Every math classroom needs Dice. They're used for countless things! 

Fraction circles help with learning fractions. We like to pretend they are pizzas, because pizzas make everything more fun! 

Another necessity for any classroom is a balance scale. This tool helps make comparisons and helps with fractions, multiplication and counting, and more.

Pattern Blocks are one of the most fun math tools out there! Actually, I have a review about these too, HERE

Fraction Towers are another great way to learn about fractions. Froot Loop has a set of these and even though he's not even in first grade yet, he's got a pretty good grasp on fractions already! 

This Magnetic Base Ten is one of the best ways to visualize ones, tens, hundreds, and thousands place value. Hands-on is one of the best ways to learn math in general!

These are all great products for helping teach math! We used a lot of these in our homeschool routine as well as to help my son better understand math because he's more of a visual person.

These are so great! I love little animals and things to teach my kids, but I try so hard to not have toys with lots of pieces in my home. We do math problems with Eminems, skittles and smarties instead haha!

I use over half of what you have listed here and can attest that they really work and are awesome to have just for independent play! If anyone is questioning any of these - don't hesitate - IT'S TOTALLY WORTH IT!

These are great tools for working with kids in math. We used many of them when we were homeschooling. I need to get the fraction circles. My granddaughter is 5 and really starting to show an interest in fractions.

What a blast from the past! We homeschooled and I think we had most of the items you shared. The counting bears and dios were my kids favorite for sorting and counting games.

Lots of great math helps! I homeschooled my kids and we had many of these or similar items. My kids LOVED the pattern blocks and played with them often.

This is very timely. We are having some challenges with Math and thus, looking for ways on how we can make it more fun and easier. I think my son would love the dinosaurs and the farm animals. Checking out the Math Dictionary.
