One of the best baby items I purchased was my Boppy pillow. I have gotten so much use out of it in the almost 4 years I've had it.

I had this pillow attached to me nearly nonstop for the first couple of weeks after Froot Loop and Cocoa Puff were born. I just hooked it over the edge of the Pack and Play at night and had it on the couch next to me during the day so it was always within reach for feeding time. I was very happy with how well this fit me. I’m not a small person and it wrapped around me just fine. It raised my boys up just enough to the perfect height for comfortable breastfeeding. I used it while nursing Cocoa Puff until he 8 months old, but then he got too wiggly and tall for it. I used it for quite a while with Froot Loop too, but I don’t remember the exact time I stopped using it with him.

I would buy some covers for the pillow. They allow for a variety of designs and also allow you to have an extra one or two for the inevitable spit up/poop/etc.

Boppy covers:

Get 1-2 of these so if it gets dirty, you have a spare while you wash it. I needed 3 with Cocoa Puff because he spit up twice a day sometimes. I finally got smart and started draping a swaddle blanket over the pillow cover so I didn’t have to keep doing laundry. I also got a water resistant cover to protect the pillow from pee and spit up and the occasional coffee spill (or spaghetti) or whatever.

The Boppy is good for other things too. We would prop up the boys when they were babies in the boppy for supervised naps. This propping method would also be good for bottle feeding.

When they got a little older, we used the Boppy for tummy time. This allowed them to develop their little biceps and triceps as well as neck muscles.

Then when the boys were learning how to sit up, we would put the Boppy behind them to support them. This was pretty magical to them as all of a sudden, they had a whole new view of the world!

I have used the Boppy to hold my phone or computer (usually snacks). I also have sat on it and used it as a neck pillow. Froot Loop sometimes uses it on the floor if he’s watching a movie or just playing with his toys on his belly. He also puts his animals in it for their nap time.

In a pinch, I’ve even put the Boppy around a table base to help babyproof a motel room.

The Boppy would also be a good pillow to use as a tailbone pillow or recovery from a traumatic childbirth, but this might be hard to do if you’re using it for breastfeeding!

Since Cocoa Puff got a lot more squirmy in the last few months while nursing, I’ve had to stop putting him on the Boppy since I kind of need to wrap my bottom arm around him a little more. It’s been sitting on the couch for awhile and I need to use it more. I’m thinking of using it as a back rest/prop for when I’m typing on the couch/ottoman.

I did use it as a booster seat for Froot Loop not too long ago. I trust him enough to not fall off of it. I would not put Cocoa Puff in it for that purpose though. Not yet, anyway.

It also still makes a great laptop and drink/snack/book prop. Since I already have it, I might as well keep using it!

So what about you? Did you use a breastfeeding/feeding support pillow? Do you still use it?

Edited: It is now almost 7 years since I have had my Boppy, and it still gets used! Both of my kids love laying on it, and it still makes a fantastic snack and drink holder! It's one of my favorite pillows to use while propped up, reading, and I also used it during my gallbladder surgery recovery to hold against me anytime I needed to cough or move. I wish I had thought to used it when I had bronchitis and cracked my ribs!

Definitely a MUST for any new mom!

Wow, I didn't realize how versatile those pillows are! And I love the idea to simply get several covers. This way you can even make them fit your color scheme at all times, haha.
