Barcode Scanners are Fun! Here's What We Did After we Bought our Own Barcode Scanner For the House

I’ve been looking for a barcode scanner for inventory — for both business and personal uses. This wireless scanner allows me to wander around the room and quickly scan items. The scanner is very lightweight. It scans barcodes on books, DVDs, CDs, etc. (It doesn’t scan QR 2D codes, just the standard barcodes we’ve had around for a while.)

All the settings are adjustable by barcodes in the scanner manual. To change a setting, you just follow the instructions on the page and scan the barcode(s) as needed. Be sure you don’t lose the manual!

I connected the USB dongle to Honey Graham’s Mac laptop and it recognized the device as a keyboard. The keyboard setup assistant popped up (asking me to press control on this new keyboard). Just close the setup window and you’re good to go.

The USB dongle is a tad too wide. It may block other ports on your computer on each side of the dongle, or it might not fit in certain USB ports due to the clearance needed on each side.

I have an in-house inventory system and the dongle types in the digits in an instant after I scan the barcode. I have it set to enter a return character after each barcode to submit the digits to the inventory software.

The beeps let me know if the code was successfully scanned. I’m not tethered to the computer. With the inventory mode, I wouldn’t even have to be near the computer!

It takes a couple of times to figure out how to turn on the scanner (you have to pull the trigger and hold until it beeps that it’s on). The included adapter very quickly charges the scanner.

This is an easy way to catalog your media for insurance purposes or to prevent purchasing the same movie 3 or 4 times. For some reason, we have 3 copies of Edward Scissorhands… 

Honey Graham has also been able to use this for work purposes. It’s a really handy tool to have around!
