Tutorial: Turkey Can Handprint Craft To Keep Your Kids Busy While Waiting for Thanksgiving Dinner

Thanksgiving! Some people call it Turkey Day, which sort of gets on my nerves a little, but really, the meal (at least the eating part) is all about the turkey, so I can see why it’s called that.

This is a super cute turkey craft that can easily be used as centerpieces at your table or as cute gift boxes. This craft features your kiddos, but really, it’s going to have to be assembled by you, or your older kids.

Materials:
Small, snack size Pringles can (or a small nut can, or whatever)
Brown construction paper
Construction paper in desired feather colors
Scissors
Glue
Pencil
Google Eyes
Small paper plate

Foam/ paper scraps/shapes

Cut paper plate in half.

Trace your kid’s hand on a piece of construction paper.

Cut out hand shape. I used a binder clip to clip 7 pieces of paper together and was able to cut out all 7 handprints at once. You could also trace and cut out each one separately.

Cover your can with the brown paper. Use a little more glue than you think you’ll need.

Glue your handprints to the rounded edge of the plate. I did mine in two “layers.” I did a back layer and then a front layer. I was going to let the boys do it themselves, but they were not interested and wanted to go back to trying to shove each other into their ball pit box…

Let dry.

Once dry, glue your plate to the back of your can.

Let dry.

Glue google eyes to front of can.

Cut out shapes for beak and waddle.

Glue beak and waddle to front of can.

What’s your favorite part of the Thanksgiving meal?

Very cute! And easy! Thanks for the reminder that while it's the kids handprints, it isn't most Littles have the attention span to work on. Sets expectations appropriately!

Thank you. I know that sometimes I'll try a craft with my kids that's really too old or difficult for them and I get annoyed, so I figured other people are the same way.

Cute craft! I might do this with my girl scouts in a few weeks. It would be a fun project to do so they have something to put at the Thanksgiving table.

what a cute idea & I think I could actually have my 17 month old participate in this one. Think we may add some feathers or glitter to add some more flair to it!

Absolutely! Glitter is great.

Super cute craft to make with my son this week. We don't celebrate Thanksgiving in the Philippines, but I love the idea that families get to eat something delicious together and take some moments to be grateful. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you. Thanksgiving is a pretty fun tradition here. I'd love to hear more about yours in the Philippines.

Oh my gosh, what an adorable craft! I may have to try this with my girls over Thanksgiving, if I can remember to bring the supplies with us to my in-laws' lol...(ps holidays are so nice for the break from homework and after school activities, aren't they? :) ...)

I hope you do try it. It was a lot of fun. And, yes, except when you run a preschool church group and are asked to have an extra after school session one day! Oh well, it's another excuse to do crafts!
