18 Useful Ways to Use Bean Bags You May Not Have Thought of Before

We have several beanbags around the house. I have made some out of about every material I could think of and I have also bought a few, like the ones in the affiliate link. I thought for awhile and came up with several uses for beanbags.

Toss in the hole games. Always a classic.
Paperweights. Or tablecloth weights on windy days!
Tripod for a camera. I love this idea. I don’t like carrying around bulky tripods.

Smartphone Stand. Who doesn’t need a few extra stands around?
Juggling. I wish I could juggle.
Hot Potato. Everyone has played this game at some point.

Nonlethal ammunition. I’ve heard of police officers using bean bags instead of bullets.
Finish Line/Hand Buzzer thing. When I was in AWANA, the games were always decided by grabbing a bowling pin and a beanbag to decide first and second place. It is a very easy thing to do to leave a beanbag on the table and whoever grabs it first wins or gets to answer the question or whatever.

Sensory stimulation. You can fill beanbags with different substances and let your little ones feel around and guess what is in them. You can also put lavender or sweet orange on them for aromas.
Naptime. When Froot Loop was a baby, there were times I just COULD NOT LEAVE when he was napping because as soon as I’d lift my hand, he’d start crying. I finally tried putting a small beanbag on his lower back and doing the Indiana Jones switcheroo. It worked! I wouldn’t do this at night when I’m not regularly checking on him, but hey, it extended naptime by a while.

Balancing one on the head. Good for developing those skills.
Hand eye coordination. For doing things such as playing catch or throwing straight up in the air- less frustrating than a ball and it doesn’t roll away when dropped.

Relay races. To hand off. Also, you can all get into a line and go over the head, then under the legs, then over the head all the way down the line! It’s silly fun!
Breathing awareness. Lie down and rest the bean bag on your belly. If you’re breathing correctly, the beanbag will rise and fall with your breath.

Simple transferring from one hand to the other back and forth.
Throwing tic tac toe. So much fun.
Bucket game. Do any of you remember Bozo’s Buckets?
Bowling/Knock them down game. Instead of using a bowling ball, you can use a beanbag to see how many pins you knock down.

Did I leave anything out?
