Wishlist Wednesday: It's Not Grapes, but it's a Fruit: True Grapefruit!
It's Wednesday... Wishlist Wednesday! This is the time of the week where I find something on Amazon that I just HAVE to have! This week's item is a little different from other Wishlist Wednesdays:
I've been a fan of True Lime and True Lemon and True Orange for a while. It has zero calories, zero carbs, and zero sugar, and yet tastes refreshing and yummy. It also has zero artificial sweeteners, zero preservatives, zero artificial colors, zero sodium, and is gluten free!
There's another flavor I haven't tried yet: True Grapefruit!!!
The only ingredient is crystallized grapefruit (citric acid, grapefruit oil, and grapefruit juice) and it is non-GMO.
This box is for 32 packets of True Grapefruit. Each packet is the equivalent of the taste of 1 grapefruit wedge.
If you like sweet drinks, this is not for you, unless you add some sweetener of some kind. I recommend some Stevia for a healthier alternative to sugar. Raw sugar is another choice I'd make. But, I prefer it just by itself in its natural, unsweetened form.
I came across an idea recently to bring your own packets to flavor your own water at restaurants. So, you could throw a few of these in your bag or pocket, and enjoy a tasty flavored water without the price of paying for soda or lemonade.
Some of the reviews say that this doesn't have much flavor, but the other flavors definitely taste like the citrus they are made from, so I don't see why this would be any different as long as you followed the instructions to make it.
Now, here's the only issue I have with it, and it's an issue with grapefruit in general. I'm taking an SSRI, and one of the major interactions with SSRI medications is grapefruit. Grapefruit can cause the body to absorb more of the medication than your body can handle, causing Serotonin Syndrome. Soooooo, if you're taking any medication, especially cough syrup or an SSRI, I'd ask a pharmacist or doctor before consuming this item.
Other than that, I can't wait to try this! I love grapefruit, especially in the spring and summer. I make an awesome grapefruit tea in the winter too.
