Oh, what a world! Cocoa Puff Loves to Play with these Melissa & Doug Whittle World Vehicles & People

Today, I have a fun review for you. These Melissa and Doug toys are played with at least weekly here, mostly by Cocoa Puff while Froot Loop is at school. I love that they enable to us to build our own little world.
We have the airplane, Bus & School, Train & Platform, and the Fire Truck.
The airplane was the first one we got. Froot Loop got it for Christmas a few years ago now, back when he was totally into airplanes. The airplane has 4 people that fit in the plane as well as 4 suitcases that fit into the back.
The plane has wings that fold up. They're attached by some sort of elastic band that lets them either stick out like wings or be tucked into the sides. It's pretty cool and gives a satisfying fidget outlet for the boys.
The people and the suitcases do fit in there pretty well and don't fall out too easily. This is a good thing! They're perfect for toddler and preschooler fingers because they are easy to grasp and pull out of the plane as well. Froot Loop loves to pack in the people in the plane and make them all leave their luggage at home.
Cocoa Puff's favorite vehicle from this set is the school bus. It has the bus, the school bus stop, and the school. It also comes with 7 people.
The bus has a door and a stop sign that either fold in or can stick out. They are attached by the same kind of elastic band as the airplane. Cocoa Puff loves to drive the bus around and pick up the kids and take them to school.
The bus driver sits well in the front seat, and there are spaces for 6 kids to sit in the bus.
The school bus stop has spaces for 2 kids to sit and wait for the bus to pick them up.
The school has a door that opens.
The door has the same elastic as the other pieces, which makes it so easy to open and close the door, which he does. Over and over and over.
The train is a lot of fun too. It's two cars and a train stop. It also comes with a conductor and 4 other people.
The train stop has spaces for 3 people to stand and wait for the train to arrive.
The back car holds 4 people. The front car has space for the conductor and 2 people.
There's also a reversible board where the people in the front car can play checkers or be eating a meal. The boys often like to remove this board and try to cram in 2 more people riding sideways.
The two cars easily hook and unhook. Both boys can easily do it.
The fire truck is the newcomer to this neighborhood for us. Cocoa Puff got it for his birthday.
It has 3 firefighters, a burning building, and a person trapped in the fire.
2 of the firefighters fit perfectly in the front seat. The other one can ride in the bucket if so desired.
We have a lot of fun setting up all of the pieces and making a neighborhood. The people ride the train and the bus to work and school. The fire truck drives people around and saves people and the airplane flies people around on vacation.
He loves to take all the pieces out and move them around. Then he drives the vehicles around. He can do this for hours!
I absolutely adore the detail of the people. Each one is hand made and painted, and they all have the cutest outfits, coordinated with their career or set.
After playing for awhile, he starts to get creative, putting pieces on top of other pieces like putting the school bus stop or the school on top of the train station. So silly.
My one little complaint about these sets is that the paint has started to come off of a couple of the people. I think this may be because they are played with so often. It's also possible that the dogs have picked them up once or twice. Otherwise, these are incredibly well made, like most Melissa and Doug products. The vehicles are SOLID, and they HURT when dropped on your foot or thrown at you.
Cocoa Puff has this cute farm on his Christmas wish list. It comes with the farmer, 2 vehicle pieces, 2 animals, 2 hay bales, and barn with loading chute. The tractor and trailer easily hook and unhook, just like the train cars.
I love how all of these pieces can be played with together or separately. I also appreciate how all of the people can fit in any of the vehicles or accessory pieces to any of the sets. That makes it very easy to play with and a lot of fun.
We love these sets and they are a great way to encourage learning about community helpers and to role play school and vacations.
What kind of vehicle do you use to commute to work?
