A Sensory Bin to Celebrate Autumn: A Week of Sensory Bins

Ah, Autumn. It's FINALLY autumn.... my favorite season. I thought I'd throw together a fun, cinnamon-scented sensory box for the kiddos to celebrate! Here's what I did...

My storage container, like most of the storage containers I use in my storage boxes is a clear 16 quart plastic "sweater box". I just like the size of this bin and it doesn't take hundreds of dollars of things to fill it.

I found some glass gems in fall colors. These are always a big hit in my sensory boxes.

Of course, autumn means falling leaves! I found a ton of fake fall leaves and put most of them in there.

Our local dollar store had these cute little plastic containers with leaves and acorns on the sides, so I bought a 3-pack and put them in there for the boys to scoop with.

A couple other things I put in the bin were some fake acorns and some fall-shaped plastic gems/table scatter Oh my goodness, these are SOOOOO pretty and I'm going to get more to just put in a clear bowl on my dining table. I LOVE LOVE LOVE these.

Finally, the last two things in the bin are some fake straw (I was able to find some that had been dyed a really pretty dark color!) and some cinnamon essential oil. I put some straw in a gallon sized bag with several drops of the cinnamon oil, shook it up really well, and then left it in until the oil dried. I guess I could have used a drop of clove oil too, but I really wanted just a cinnamon scent for this one.

Ah! It's so pretty!!! And it smells really good. It smells like fall. Thank goodness... it was a LONG, HOT summer and I'm ready for cooler weather, cups of spicy tea, hoodies, and leggings.

Are you a pumpkin spice nut? For me, I like pumpkin spice occasionally, but I'm not obsessed with it.

BONUS QUESTION: What's the CRAZIEST pumpkin spice thing you've come across?

I remember doing sensory tables 30 years ago with my nursery school while I was in high school. It still brings back big smiles, thanks for the reminder!

What a great idea and I love that it's so affordable and easy to make! We live in Florida and it's been in the 90's this last week so getting the chance to play with leaves would be a big hit with my kids!

Pumpkin Spice used to be a real treat that was rationed out at this time of year. Now it is everywhere and I imagine there will be PS toilet bowl cleaner soon.

Ah well, still my fav time of year. Great post - thanks!

Mama - September 26, 2018 10:07 PM
For bins like this one, my oldest was at least a year old. And it was MESSY.
