Valentine's Day Party Favors and Class Handouts!

Froot Loop's class recently had their Fairy Tale unit. It was a lot of fun and it all culminated in a big Fairy Tale Festival at school. There were lots of fun costumes and streamers and crafts. Anyway, I found a use for some of the leftover streamers! Check out what I made...

These are going to be handouts for Froot Loop's class for the Valentine's Day celebration. They're kind of like little fairy tale wands! Ah! I am so excited about them.

They only needed a few things to make them:

Paper Straws

Crepe Paper

Satin Ribbon

and a glue stick.

I made several different varieties while I was experimenting. I tried varying the number of streamers and adding ribbon and mixing colors or just making them one color.

For the wands with one color streamer and ribbons, cut 6 similar lengths of crepe paper and 2-3 lengths of ribbon. Stack all 6 strips. Glue the ribbons to the top strip as in the photo.

Fold all of the strips together lengthwise at the very end, then do it again. Keep the ribbons on the outside if possible. Twist the end into a point.

Make the point small enough to fit in the end of the straw. Put a little of the glue stick in the end of the straw and push the streamers and ribbons into the straw. Twist as you go to help it go in a little farther.

You will end up with a straw with a bunch of streamers and ribbons coming out of the end, perfect as a fairy tale wand! I made one in each of the three colors of streamers.

Next, I ended up making the wand with all three colors and a couple ribbons. I cut two lengths of each streamer and two ribbons (all the same length).

I glued the ribbons to the top and twisted together just like before.

Then I pushed it into the straw just like with the single colored ones.

There we go! A multicolored fairytale wand!

Then of course, I had to play with it for a few minutes. Obviously, these are made with crepe paper, so they won't last forever, but hey, even if they just last for the duration of the Valentine's Day celebration, I'll be happy!

Plus, I used up all of that extra crepe paper! YES!!!!

I think these would make really fun birthday party favors too or maybe even a VBS craft for elementary kids. They were fun to make, weren't very expensive to make, and didn't take long. Of course, now I've got to make 20 more for the class!

What's your favorite fairy tale?
