Review of Leap Frog's Educational & Fun Musical Activity Table For Babies and Toddlers

It seems so quickly that babies go from just lying there to sitting up, then crawling! Then suddenly they're standing up and holding onto things. Soon, they're walking and it seems like just yesterday they couldn't even roll over... It also seems that there are so many toys out there that encourage babies to develop these skills. One of my favorites is the LeapFrog Musical Activity Center.

Both boys have gotten a ton of use out of this toy. We started using it when Froot Loop could first hold his head up. We put the table down on the floor without the legs on it so he could look at it while we pushed the buttons on it. Then when he could pull to stand, we put the legs on it. It was a great object to learn to stand with. Cocoa Puff is now using it to hold himself up. He loves playing with all the different sides and supporting himself up. He can now hold on with one hand and walk around it. 

There are four different sides and two different modes in both English and Spanish.

Using the music mode, one side has a guitar with whammy bar that makes music noises, a piano with four keys that play a little piano song, and a xylophone that scales up or down depending on which direction it’s pushed.

The next side has access to the same xylophone, and a little lever that opens and closes to a scat singer.

The next side has a trombone that plays when you move the slider and also three little buttons that play drum sounds.

The final side has access to the drum buttons, guitar whammy bar, and also a shaker that plays a song when it is spun around. Cocoa Puff loves to walk around the table and press all the buttons and play with all the different activities. To put it to learning mode, you turn the page of music in the middle of the table. This changes everything. The piano keys then sing their color. The xylophone scales up and says UP or DOWN or HIGH and LOW. The little box says Hello and Bye Bye and Open and Close. The Trombone sings 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10. The drum buttons say red square, yellow triangle, or green circle. The spinny shaker sings the alphabet song. The guitar whammy bar says lights on, lights off. It is very easy for baby to turn the music page and change it between music and learning mode. 

There are two buttons on the trombone side that control the spanish/english and the volume/on. 

The table is the perfect height for babies just learning to stand and pull up on things. The table isn’t incredibly sturdy, but it’s sturdy enough to allow for one hand to hold on and the other hand to play. If baby leans against it, it doesn’t move too much, especially on carpet or a foam mat. 

There are over 40 songs and melodies. I lost track and got bored after counting 40. There are so many different activities with different actions. Babies get to learn to push buttons, slide objects, spin, or roll. There are tons of surfaces to grab and the lights around the book light up in different patterns depending on which activity is activated. There are nursery rhyme songs and multiple different styles of rhythms and songs. 

The legs are super easy to put on. They just snap on. We did remove them when Froot Loop outgrew the music table and we put the whole thing back in the box it came in (I kept it) and stored it in the garage until Cocoa Puff was born. After over a year in storage, it came out practically brand new. Froot Loop played with this thing ALL THE TIME and beat it up constantly and it is still in great shape. A little bit of the paint/sticker on the music book has come off from him turning the table upside down and spinning it, but it does not affect the function of the table in the least and frankly, no one notices. I just noticed it now looking at it, actually. 

It takes 3 AA batteries to operate, and the batteries last quite a while before needing to be replaced. 

The recommended ages on the table from the manufacturer say 6 months to 3 years. I would say it’s more like 3 or 4 months to maybe 2 years. After that, Froot Loop got bored. I guess we could have pushed him more to learn the spanish mode, but by the time he was 2, he knew all his letters, numbers 1-10, colors, and shapes, so he didn’t really want to play with it anymore. Of course, now that Cocoa Puff is playing with it, he’s suddenly sort of interested in it again, but I think it’s just a matter of “but he’s playing with it!” He doesn’t even remember that it used to be his. 

Anyway, this is such a fun toy for babies and toddlers. It appeals to different senses and also works both gross and fine motor skills. Since there are so many songs, it doesn’t get annoying as quickly as other toys do (although if your baby likes to pound the same button OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER, it can get a little grating. Da da da DA. Da da da DA. Da da da DA. At least the lower volume isn’t very loud.)

This is a lot of fun for babies and toddlers. There are many modes of play and lots of different activities for little hands and ears and eyes to enjoy. It’s not super annoying and my kids both got a lot of hours of fun out it. Cocoa Puff enjoys it and plays with it for several minutes at a time. 

Please note that the legs could either be green or blue and it doesn’t appear that there’s any way to select what you want.

My kiddos had a similar table, and they loved it. They loved Violet and Scout when they were younger.

My daughter had this toy and she loved it! It lasted a lot longer than I thought it would, through different developmental stages, and even survived two international moves!

We’ve had a similar toy for so far 3/4 of our babies. They have all loved it. I love bringing music into their lives.

The music on baby toys drives me crazy! I have to rotate through the ones we have so I don't lose my mind, haha!
