One of the BEST Things for Kids to Do in the CAR or on a RAINY DAY...

We have a bunch of these reusable stickers from Melissa and Doug. Froot Loop loves stickers and these are a great way to play with stickers. They’re not actually stickers in that they have adhesive on them. They’re made of vinyl and are more “cling on” than stickers. They’re sort of like the Colorforms we used to have back in the day, only more awesome.
The backgrounds are so fun, colorful, and are big enough to put plenty of stickers on them. The stickers are a little hard for Froot Loop to peel off, but that’s a fine motor skill we are still working on with him. He does get a little frustrated that he can’t put ALL the stickers on the page at once, but the more often we do the stickers, the more okay he is with it. He still likes to fill the page, though. They don’t take up a lot of room, so they’d be good to travel with; however, the pages are probably too big to do WHILE traveling (like in the car or a plane or something).
The first thing I did upon getting these is take all the pages out. Then I “filed” them back inside the cover with the sticker sheet on top of the appropriate background. This way, I can just grab the stickers and background together and not have to worry about all the other sheets. Plus this way, we don’t have to constantly flip back and forth between the background and sticker page.
Each package is a steal at about $5-6. Seriously. These are worth every penny. Each pack has five different, related backgrounds, and five sheets of stickers, one for each background, although you can mix and match! Plus, Amazon.com often has them on sale, usually for buy 2, get 1 free.
The vehicle set is Froot Loops favorite. No surprise there. He rotates between each background (airport, dock, construction site, railroad, and roadway) and usually decorates 2-3 pages each time we play. He says the airport and the railroad are both his favorite.
I’ve even played with them after he goes to bed. They are so easy to use, and I’m sure once Froot Loop gets a little older, he can play with them totally by himself, including putting the clings back on the sheets. I enjoy doing them together though.
The other sets we have are the habitats (backgrounds are a farm, dinosaurs, desert, jungle, and ocean), my town (with a school, grocery store, hospital, restaurant, and fire station), and play house (has a bedroom, kitchen, living room, bathroom, and back yard). I recently bought the one that has the dress up girls when I found it on sale. There's also an adventure set (pirate, medieval, space, deep sea and wild west), a "face it" set, which allows you to put faces on 5 different crowds, fairies (fairy village, pond, tree house, wildflower garden and twilight scene), and a princess castle (royal bedroom, ballroom, throne room, garden promenade and brook-side garden). I also found a couple scratch n sniff sets, including flowers and fruits.
I love these sets because they encourage such creativity and even silliness. Oh no! There’s a toilet in the bedroom! Look, there’s a dinosaur swimming in the ocean! The firemen need a grocery cart!
I prefer to keep the sticker sets separate, but I have heard of others mixing the sets, i.e. putting dinosaur stickers with the vehicles or town, or putting grocery store carts in the backyard, etc. I’m very type A and this would drive me crazy, so I don’t do it. Froot Loop probably wouldn’t go for it either since he takes after his mama in this way.
Right now, I do have to put all the stickers back when we’re done, but it really doesn’t take that long and it’s not a big deal. We are very careful to put them back where they’re supposed to go so they last longer. If you need to clean the stickers or try to get them “stickier” again, you can wash them with dish detergent and let them air dry. They are only vinyl so they won’t last forever. I prefer to do this as a supervised activity so I don’t end up with stickers all over the house, but Froot Loop needs help with them anyway, so that’s what we do. The stickers also work on windows and glass doors. We’ve even used them on the bathtub wall!
All in all, we have a lot of fun with these and I love that they’re reusable so we can do them over and over again. I have purchased several sticker scene sets from Dollar Tree and we love doing those too, but they are definitely a one-and-done activity. We usually either send the completed scenes to the grandparents or hang them on Froot Loop’s wall in his bedroom. For $5-6 for 5 scenes, these end up being about the same price as Dollar Tree, plus they are reusable!
We also have the make a meal sticker set, but that one is not reusable. I wish it were, because we have a LOT of fun making up strange combinations. I could probably laminate the stickers and place settings to reuse them, but I don’t feel like putting that much work, time, and money into it. There is also a make-a-face sticker set that is not reusable. That one is a lot of fun too. There's a make a face animals set, which is just silly, and also a sweets and treats set, which is super cute.
This is another Melissa and Doug product that lives up to the company name. They are exceptionally high quality and customer service is amazing. I would buy just about anything if it had the Melissa and Doug brand name on it.
Do you remember Colorforms!? What were the last stickers you used?
