Review of OKO Filtered Water Bottle

I was recently in the market for a new reusable water bottle. One of my other reusable filtered bottles broke after almost 6 years of use! I was looking for an exact replacement, but then I found these cool OKO water bottles on Amazon. They were pretty cheap and looked awesome so I thought I’d try them since I like trying new things.
These OKO water bottles come with filters made from natural coconut shells and carbon. These filters reduce chlorine, taste, and odor in regular tap water. (Note that they are not for use with water from unknown sources or water that could be contaminated) The taste is good. It does a good job removing chlorine flavor from our nasty tap water.
The bottles are 20 ounces, which is a decent amount. They are BPA and phthalate free and can also be washed in the dishwasher.
Each filter does 40 bottles, and there’s a cool counter on the bottom of the filter holder in the bottle. After using the filter 40 times, you simply recycle it! The bottles themselves are recyclable too.
The bottle comes in just a few parts: the bottle, the filter holder, the filter, the cap, and the flip top. The filter holder unscrews from underneath the cap and the filter gets pushed inside. Then, twist the filter holder back onto the cap. Fill the bottle with regular tap water, then twist the cap on and squeeze out a full bottle of water to prime the filter and remove extra carbon powder. Then, refill the bottle, set the dial on the bottom of the filter holder to 1, and screw the cap on. Every time you refill the bottle, move the counter forward.
The bottles are lightweight, flexible, and have a smaller “waist” for easy holding. They fit easily in the cupholders in the car and treadmills and even my stroller. The water comes out easily if you squeeze it or gently suck on it like a straw.
My favorite thing about these bottles is the flip top, so the nozzle stays clean and also if I tip it over or one of the boys knocks it over, water doesn’t accidentally squeeze out everywhere. Froot Loop has a couple different filtered bottles that have separate caps that we have lost, and we have to “lock” the bottle to keep him from accidentally squirting water everywhere (because he ALWAYS DOES!). When the bottle is “locked” though, he can’t open it himself and gets very frustrated because he’s thirsty! So, I really like this easy to use flip top. It opens and closes easily so he can do it himself.
The one thing I don’t like is the annoying “label” printed on the bottom of the bottle. I don’t have a problem with the logo at the top, but I don’t like the big obnoxious thing at the bottom that says to add filter and refill 40 times.
There are filter refills for these, and they are really cheap, especially for 40 bottles of water! These paid for themselves almost immediately and are much better for the environment than the single use plastic water bottles. (plus, I think filtered water tastes better than most bottled water anyway)
What was the last new thing you tried?
