10 Reasons My Dog Sleeps In My Bed With Me

I never thought I’d let a dog sleep in bed with me. I’m a pretty poor sleeper (which is why my husband sleeps in another room!), so I didn’t think I’d sleep well enough with my pup at my side; however, I have succumbed to letting her share my bed.

She helps with my anxiety. I’m not sure why, but having her at my side just helps me stay calm and keeps my anxiety at bay.

I help with HER anxiety. She’s a scaredy dog, especially when it’s storming, but she snuggles up to me as close as she can get (and shakes like a leaf!) when she’s in my bed.

We keep each other warm, at least in the winter! In the summer, I need her to not sleep right next to me because she’s a little furnace.

She helps me sleep. I swear, this dog has a “sleep vortex,” which sort of sucks me in to dreamland.

She doesn’t wander around the house at night. She stays put next to me and sleeps all night long.

She protects me. If ever we’d have an intruder or other incident, she’d definitely wake me up and alert us to something being wrong.

It’s sooooooo relaxing to fall asleep petting her. She’s so soft and furry!

It forces me to wash my sheets more often. This may be looked upon as a bad thing, but I’m pretty bad about washing my sheets.

It strengthens our friendship. She’s sort of antisocial during the day and likes to nap in her safe place: her kennel. We get LOTS of snuggles in before falling asleep.

She’s just so cute and snuggly. I WANT her next to me!

Do you let your pets sleep with you?

We used to have a Shi-Tzu that always slept in our bed. She always snuggled in between to make sure I couldn't harass my wife. My wife was much happier about having her in the bed than I was...

I love this! you've put into words all of my feelings! :)

I would probably let my dog sleep with us all the time if we had the room. But she definitely keeps me company and makes me feel safe when my husband works his two late night shifts a week. My Emma girl definitely helps with my anxiety and I love cuddling her!! And yes to washing the sheets more haha

Awww. Because Im not a pet owner, this sheds so much light and brings more awareness for me. The pups are so cute.
Christina - March 15, 2019 11:04 PM
Yes. My husband and I let our 2 cats sleep in the bed with us at night. They usually sleep together because they are a bonded pair. This makes it difficult for pet parents to sleep. It is so worth it to get snuggles and purrs.
Great post! :) Love the pics! I will post to Pinterest.

I know pets, especially dogs, have been said to be man's best friend and for a lot of people, they are. I would be too sensitive to the fur, but I can see why many people enjoy the companionship, even to the point of co-sleeping.

These photos are way too cute

Oh my gosh I love all the puppy pictures! I most definitely let my dog sleep in my bed, I always feel so much better knowing she's there. It makes me feel safe :)
Megan - March 16, 2019 7:42 AM
I love sleeping with my pup! I always sleep better with her next to me. Now that we have our little one she doesn’t sleep with us as often, but we still let them up to cuddle with us sometimes. It’s the best!

I never thought I’d let pets sleep with me either, so when I got my cat, I bought her cat beds and would put it next to my bed and others throughout the house. If I was sleeping in my bed, she’d never sleep in hers. She insisted on sleeping on my bed. First it was by my feet and over the years, she has made it up to my pillow. The hair is too much, so she sleeps on her own pillow now above my head. It’s nice having her there for comfort and it definitely creates a stronger bond.

I love love love all your photos! If I had my way (ahem, husband!) my Golden Doodle would absolutely sleep in my bed! She's extremely soft and fluffy and loves to snuggle. It would also put me at ease for her to be right there. I love dogs' personalities though. I had a German Shepherd and while he would watch TV in bed with us, as soon as the lights went out he got off the bed, whether I wanted him to or not, and went to lay next to our bedroom door. I always slept so soundly, knowing he was there, and he always insisted on laying in just that spot!

I share mine with my husband, my doggo Cooper, and my cat Pete. It's amazing I get any sleep at all, lol!
Czjai Reyes-Ocampo - March 16, 2019 11:17 AM
Awww, your dog is so adorable! Before I gave birth to my son, my dog would sleep on the foot of my bed.
Natalie - March 16, 2019 11:52 AM
Yes I sleep with my doggy in my bed too. And I see no issue with it!! Such a cute post love it so much!!!
Emmeline - March 16, 2019 12:16 PM

I haven’t had a dog for a while now and all these pics are making me miss my Ginger. She never slept with me but she loved being with us all the time.

Awww, I love this! Miss having a dog and spending quality cuddle time with them.
Ashton - March 16, 2019 1:38 PM
We had a cat that had magical sleepy time purrs. I remember one night hubby and I slept for 16 hours and she was there purring the whole time.
Cindy - March 16, 2019 5:59 PM
Sounds like a win/win! You comfort each other. I have two cats who sleep with me. They usually stay at the end of the bed but Angel, my gray female cat, likes to wake me up at least once during the night, to “check” on me. Then she snuggles up next to me for a while.
Shelby - March 16, 2019 6:50 PM
My dogs are my babies and they sleep with me every night! I cant sleep well without them honestly! I run a dog blog dedicated to them!
Tracy @ Cleland Clan - March 16, 2019 7:20 PM
Our pup we lost last year always slept with us, but our older dog rarely does. Indy, though, would wiggle her way up even if there was only an inch or two available for her 60 lb. body. There were times with both of the dogs (a lab and a labradoodle) that there was barely room for my husband and me in our king bed. Allie hardly ever comes upstairs now--she likes the living room rug, the sofa, or the spare room bed, and still misses her sister.
Christa - March 16, 2019 8:01 PM
I’m not a fan of having my dog on my bed. Luckily, my son loves it when the dog is on his!
brie - March 16, 2019 8:07 PM
so i have a cat instead of a puppy but i couldn’t imagine not letting him sleep with me. i love his purring and the snuggles. it’s just so nice to have your beloved pets in bed with you
Jennifer Tanney - March 16, 2019 8:29 PM
We have 9 cats. There's definitely a good chance of at least one or more of them in the bed. My husband doesn't really like cats but two of them have bonded with him and actually get away with sleep on him so nights.
Alexandra Cook - March 16, 2019 11:49 PM
I found my dogs too clingy and always wanted to sleep beside me. And it was so lovely too see them.
Trish ~Habibi House - March 16, 2019 11:55 PM
I want mine to sleep with me, but my husband says no. Our puppy is a rather large doodle.
Clare Minall - March 16, 2019 11:56 PM
I agree, sleeping with your pets can strenghteb your friendship. Me and my pets sleep together with my husband and we treat them as our own kids.
Catherine Santiago Jose - March 17, 2019 12:46 AM
I don't own any pet/s but if I am going to have at least one pet I am not going to let her/him sleep in my bed. I will buy a bed for her and place it beside on my bed.
Clarice - March 17, 2019 12:46 PM
I co-sleep with my dog and thank God my husband allowed it. I just feel really happy and secured when they're with me.

Happy to know that she's able to help with your anxiety. God bless your furbaby.
Sofia - March 17, 2019 6:17 PM
I don't have pets but my brother does and he also let them sleep with him in his bed!
Camesha - March 17, 2019 7:01 PM
Our dog slept with us a little bit when she was a puppy. She was our first baby and we'd let her snuggle with us here and there. Once we had kids, that ended. The kids took over!
Lisa Rios - March 19, 2019 10:38 PM
I have a cat, and I think I caved into letting her sleep with me the very first night LOL. It is so comforting to have her by my side.
Nicole Hood - March 19, 2019 11:33 PM
Love this! I love sleeping with my pup!
Christy - March 20, 2019 9:15 PM
We’ve had dogs and cats in the bed, and sometimes both. Some have made sleeping easier and some are much more difficult! But, we love them all.
Katie - March 21, 2019 9:45 AM
I really enjoyed reading your blog post! My baby girl has always slept with me. Some people don't understand, they aren't animals, they are little fury people. They have just as much personality as any person (or more).
Mary - March 21, 2019 7:46 PM
This is so cute! Isn’t amazing how dogs can provide us just what we need?
Lyosha - March 27, 2019 1:34 PM
I have two, the smaller one sleeps with us. We didn't originally plan on this but it we ended up having him on our bed. It is actually nice. He likes putting his head on my foot as if it a pillow. the only issue is if he sneezes
