We love Melissa and Doug products. Their play food is so amazing. It's so durable and well made. The kids have a blast with them.

Melissa and Doug has several pretend food sets. We have the cans (see post HERE), the pantry set, as well as this one and some other ones. This one is a set of food for the refrigerator

This fun set is all made of wood and each piece is hand-painted. There’s nine pieces including butter, milk, orange juice, bologna, swiss cheese, yogurt, frozen veggies, frozen waffles, and ice cream! Each piece has a bright, colorful, vivid label too.

These are fun for sorting, patterns, letter recognition, beginning reading, color recognition, grouping, and more.

We like to sort by fridge vs. freezer, by color, by shape, size, and by food group. Sometimes I try to get sneaky and ask which foods we can eat for breakfast, but on more than one occasion, the ice cream container has made it into that group! Silly boy. We’ve also worked on nutrition, grouping the items into healthy and unhealthy foods.

When all else fails, they’ve been used as stacking blocks!

The set pairs very well with Melissa and Doug kitchens as well as other kitchens. They also go well with other play food sets, whether Melissa and Doug, other brands, or homemade. We’ve played with this set by itself, which was a lot of fun, and we’ve played with it mixed in with all of our other play kitchen sets.

This set is sturdy and durable. I’ve had some pieces thrown at me, and I’ll tell you, these pieces are so solid, they left a mark! The paint has stayed on with very minimal chipping or peeling. I’m very impressed, but of course, I should just expect this from Melissa and Doug products!

This is a great starter set or an addition to your play kitchens! They can be used to play grocery store, restaurant, house, kitchen, and so much more!

Do you ever eat ice cream for breakfast?

How adorable are these! I get my niece and nephew Melissa and Doug toys every Christmas, so I'll have to add some of this play food to the list.

These definitely get the imagination flowing for my littles. We have a play kitchen, and we role play - they take a lot of time to make me a nice dinner, and I throw it in the floor...you know, just like they do to me most nights! Lol!

My daughter loves the play sets! They have them in school and she was so excited her teacher got a new kitchen set for them this week. Lol Now you have me thinking I should probably buy her a small one for Christmas! OMG have you seen their cute Diner set! I wish we had space for it I would so buy it for her. When we went to the Children's Museum she loved playing at the pretend pizza store. Gosh I have to go get her something for Christmas LOL Thanks!~ Sanaa

Not to be a downer, but Melissa and Doug are a really sketchy company with really sketchy standards and ethics. They seem kind of wholesome because they are wood, but they use unethical labor and have gotten in trouble for chemicals in their toys. I think your review is great, but I just wanted to point out there is another side to this particular brand.

Thanks for the info. I hadn't heard about this.

I've never heard anything but good things about Melissa and Doug products. We've purchased a few from amazon and have loved them all. Thanks for the review!

We've loved all of our sets too. They've held up to even the worst toddler abuse, and even one of our dogs chewing on some pieces.

MY kids love their kitchen stuff!!!

Mine too! My oldest was just using his play kitchen as a pizza oven this morning before school. We had pretend pepperoni pizza with breakfast and it was delicious.
