When I think of summertime, I think of my kids running around outside, playing hard. I think of day camps, of camping in the backyard, doing lots of science experiments and crafts, and lots of baths for stinky, smelly little boys! I was SO EXCITED when I got my July Simply Earth Essential Oil Box!

If you're new to Simply Earth, it's a company that sells PURE essential oils without all the middle men, passing the savings onto you! They are unique in that they offer a monthly essential oils subscription box that comes with FOUR essential oils and SIX recipes to make your own products, such as diffuser blends, roll ons, salts, scrubs, and so many other surprises. Plus, when you subscribe, you get a FREE box full of full size extras that you sometimes need to make the products in the monthly boxes (i.e. bottles, aloe vera gel, fractionated coconut oil, etc.).

Here's my full unboxing video! I was SO excited to get this box because as much as I love essential oils, I also have two young kids, and there are lots of essential oils that aren't all that safe around kids, especially babies and toddlers. I have learned about which oils are safe and aren't safe, and integrated them respectively into our lives. (For example, when I use eucalyptus, I only use it topically on myself and try to minimize the boys' exposure to it when I'm wearing it).

Check out all the goodies in this box! Lavender, Tangerine, Fir Needle, and a new blend called Sweet Dreams! Plus, there's six recipes and psyllum powder and the balloon you need to make the stress ball!

Lavender is one of my favorite essential oils to use (full post about it is HERE), and is pretty much the safest essential oil to use on or around kids. Tangerine is another fun one with a sort of tangy scent to it. Fir Needle is a new one for me, and I didn't think I'd like it, but it reminds me of camping when I used to live in Colorado! Finally, the new blend for this month is called Sweet Dreams, and it's a kid-safe blend containing calming oils such as Cedarwood, Marjoram, Frankincense, Lavender, and German Chamomile. To me, it smells a little bit like Patchouli, but not quite as "spicy..."

The first recipe I pulled out uses the tangerine and fir needle oils to make a homework diffuser blend. It helps focus the mind and give some uplifting energy for a few minutes at a time (like 10-15 minutes or so). Remember to only diffuse any essential oil for only 10-15 minutes when there will be kids around as their lungs are much smaller and much more sensitive.

Simply Earth's video about the blend is HERE

Next is the sweet dreams roll on, which could NOT be easier to make! It uses the Fractionated Coconut Oil and a Roll On Bottle that comes in the big BONUS BOX. Used with the carrier oil, it's safe for topical use on pulse points before bedtime. See how Simply Earth did it HERE

What kid doesn't love making bubbles!? Add a fun lavender scent to it and now you have a whole other dimension of fun! I've used the dishsoap/corn syrup/water blend to make bubble solution before, and it works very well. It even works well enough in bubble guns (if you find it is too "fragile," add a little more corn syrup... just a little at a time). Check out the video by Simply Earth HERE

If you haven't jumped on the slime making bandwagon, you're missing out. Yes, there are thousands of slime recipes out there, but this one is unique in that it uses psyllium husk powder with the cornstarch to make it kid safe (no borax!). This recipe is taste-safe (although probably doesn't taste all that appetizing), but does require a little cooking to get it right. It doesn't take that long, and it would make a super fun science experiment for family time. It also needs cornstarch, which doesn't come in the box or the BONUS BOX, but it's cheap and found just about everywhere.

The Sweet Dreams bath is another SUPER easy one that you can make together with your kids (always fun!). Just mix the incredients and then keep in a glass jar for use at bathtime. You could even add a little extra lavender oil to it if you want (or do 2 drops Sweet Dreams and 1 drop lavender). Simply Earth's video about bath salts is HERE

The last recipe in the box is for a scented stress ball (because KIDS ARE STRESSFUL!) Plus, this is a GREAT sensory tool for any kiddo on the autism spectrum or with sensory problems. Check out Simply Earth's video HERE

Lavender Essential Oil is one of the most well-known and commonly used essential oils in aromatherapy. Lavender boasts a wide array of benefits including promoting healthier skin and hair, supporting the immune system, and aiding in sleep.

Uses:

  • Calms
  • Promotes healthy skin
  • Relieves sore Muscles
  • Relaxes
  • Boosts immunity

Tangerine Oil is another favorite of mine. Tangerine’s fresh citrusy smell can have a refreshing and rejuvenating effect, while at the same time providing support to the immune system and soothing a queasy stomach.

Uses:

  • Refreshes and rejuvenates
  • Clears the mind
  • Reduces nervous tension
  • Supports the immune system
  • Quells queasy stomach

The third oil in this box is Fir Needle. Fir needles are believed to have the power to purify the air and the soul because of their disinfecting and calming properties. The burning of fir needles after childbirth was a common practice in the past, believed to impart good health for the mother and newborn.

Uses:

  • Supports respiration
  • Combats seasonal illness and pollen threats
  • Fights fatigue

The Sweet Dreams Blend is a new one this month! Sweet Dreams is a kid-safe blend to give your child a natural nudge towards bedtime. It's made up of kid-friendly essential oils that will help calm and relax your child. This synergy is a great addition to any child's bedtime routine to get them settled and ready for some sweet dreams.  It's ideal for calming and relaxing kiddos (and adults, too!).

Ingredients: Lavender, Marjoram, Frankincense, Cedarwood (Himalayan), and German Chamomile Essential Oils

Also included in the box is Psyllium Husk Powder. It's a natural soluble fiber powder perfect for making natural slime!
